A comparison of collision cross section values obtained via travelling wave ion mobility-mass spectrometry and ultra high performance liquid chromatography-ion mobility-mass spectrometry : application to the characterisation of metabolites in rat urine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
A comprehensive Collision Cross Section (CCS) library was obtained via Travelling Wave Ion Guide mobility measurements through direct infusion (DI). The library consists of CCS and Mass Spectral (MS) data in negative and positive ElectroSpray Ionisation (

Advances in lipidomics [PDF]

open access: yesClinica Chimica Acta, 2020
The present article examines recently published literature on lipids, mainly focusing on research involving glycero-, glycerophospho- and sphingo-lipids. The primary aim is identification of distinct profiles in biologic lipidomic systems by ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography (UHPLC) coupled with mass spectrometry (MS, tandem MS) with ...

Essential lipid autacoids rewire mitochondrial energy efficiency in metabolic dysfunction‐associated fatty liver disease

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
Increased liver content of DHA‐derived small lipid autacoids (i.e resolvin D1 and maresin 1) associates with enhanced mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation, fatty acid β‐oxidation and bioenergetic metabolic flux. These features provide hepatic protection from steatotic, pro‐inflammatory and fibrogenic insults.

Clinical lipidomics reveals high individuality and sex specificity of circulatory lipid signatures: a prospective healthy population study

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research
Lipid metabolism and circulatory lipid levels are tightly associated with the (cardio)metabolic health. Consequently, MS-based lipidomics has emerged as a powerful phenotyping tool in epidemiological, human population, and in clinical intervention ...

Software Tools and Approaches for Compound Identification of LC-MS/MS Data in Metabolomics. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
The annotation of small molecules remains a major challenge in untargeted mass spectrometry-based metabolomics. We here critically discuss structured elucidation approaches and software that are designed to help during the annotation of unknown compounds.

Toward a Standardized Strategy of Clinical Metabolomics for the Advancement of Precision Medicine [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Despite the tremendous success, pitfalls have been observed in every step of a clinical metabolomics workflow, which impedes the internal validity of the study.

Loss of hepatic SMLR1 causes hepatosteatosis and protects against atherosclerosis due to decreased hepatic VLDL secretion

open access: yesHepatology, EarlyView., 2022
The role of SMLR1 in lipid metabolism (high fat + cholesterol diet in mice) Abstract Background and Aims The assembly and secretion of VLDL from the liver, a pathway that affects hepatic and plasma lipids, remains incompletely understood. We set out to identify players in the VLDL biogenesis pathway by identifying genes that are co‐expressed with the ...

Evaluating Software Tools for Lipid Identification from Ion Mobility Spectrometry–Mass Spectrometry Lipidomics Data

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
The unambiguous identification of lipids is a critical component of lipidomics studies and greatly impacts the interpretation and significance of analyses as well as the ultimate biological understandings derived from measurements.

Interaction Analysis of Repeated Measure Data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2020
Extensive penalized variable selection methods have been developed in the past two decades for analyzing high dimensional omics data, such as gene expressions, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs), copy number variations (CNVs) and others.

Spatiotemporal and quantitative analyses of phosphoinositides – fluorescent probe—and mass spectrometry‐based approaches

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Fluorescent probes allow dynamic visualization of phosphoinositides in living cells (left), whereas mass spectrometry provides high‐sensitivity, isomer‐resolved quantitation (right). Their synergistic use captures complementary aspects of lipid signaling. This review illustrates how these approaches reveal the spatiotemporal regulation and quantitative
