Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Observation of lyotropic chromonic liquid crystals droplets with the perpendicular boundary condition [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Department of PhysicsControlling anchoring conditions of liquid crystals (LCs) is crucial for the study of liquid crystals and development of liquid crystals-based displays and sensors. Although many studies have been made on thermotropic liquid crystals,

Modeling Smectic Layers in Confined Geometries: Order Parameter and Defects

open access: yes, 2014
We identify problems with the standard complex order parameter formalism for smectic-A (SmA) liquid crystals, and discuss possible alternative descriptions of smectic order.

Use of frit-disc crucibles for routine and exploratory solution growth of single crystalline samples [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Solution growth of single crystals from high temperature solutions often involves the separation of residual solution from the grown crystals. For many growths of intermetallic compounds, this separation has historically been achieved with the use of ...

The planar cell polarity protein Vangl2 interacts with the PDZ‐domains of Scribble but not with a unique PDZ‐like domain in Inturned

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

Peculiarities in the Director Reorientation and the NMR Spectra Evolution in a Nematic Liquid Crystals under the Effect of Crossed Electric and Magnetic Fields

open access: yesCrystals, 2019
The illustrative description of the field-induced peculiarities of the director reorientation in the microsized nematic volumes under the effect of crossed magnetic B and electric E fields have been proposed.

ON LIQUID CRYSTALS AND LIQUID CRYSTAL DISPERSIONS

open access: yesAnnals of the Academy of Romanian Scientists Series on Physics and Chemistry, 2022
This short review paper presents some important aspects ofliquid crystal and liquid crystal composites. Preparation methods ofpolymer dispersed liquid crystalfdms (PDLC), the obtained structure and their main application as light valve are shown. In the last decade, the field has experienced a sharp revitalization, due to nanodoping, which results in ...

Preparation of a Thermally Light-Transmittance-Controllable Film from a Coexistent System of Polymer-Dispersed and Polymer-Stabilized Liquid Crystals.

open access: yesACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, 2017
Polymer-dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) and polymer-stabilized liquid crystal (PSLC) systems are the two primary distinct systems in the field of liquid crystal (LC) technology, and they are differentiated by their unique microstructures.

On asymptotic isotropy for a hydrodynamic model of liquid crystals [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
We study a PDE system describing the motion of liquid crystals by means of the $Q-$tensor description for the crystals coupled with the incompressible Navier-Stokes system.
