Litchi (Litchi chinensis Sonn.): In Vitro Production of Haploid Plants

Litchi belongs to the family Sapindaceae, and there are only two species (Chen et al. 1980). Litchi chinensis Sonn. originated in south China. It is a large tree (Fig. 1) with a height reaching 10m. There are two to four pairs of leaflets in the compound leaf.

Las flores de litchi difieren en su grado de desarrollo y se clasifican en Tipos I, II y III según el sexo y orden en que aparecen en la inflorescencia. Las Tipos I y III funcionan como masculinas, mientras que las Tipo II actúan como femeninas. En el Valle de Culiacán, Sinaloa, México, el periodo de floración de litchi ‘Brewster’ es de 52 d.
