Evaluation of resectability after neoadjuvant chemotherapy for primary non-resectable colorectal liver metastases: A multicenter study

open access: yes, 2016
Background/Aim: The Kyushu Study Group of Clinical Cancer (KSCC) previously reported the safety and efficacy of neoadjuvant chemotherapy with mFOLFOX6 + bevacizumab for H2/H3 liver metastases of colorectal cancer.

Staging Investigations in Breast Cancer: Collective Opinion of UK Breast Surgeons [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Introduction. Certain clinicopathological factors are associated with a higher likelihood of distant metastases in primary breast cancer. However, there remains inconsistency in which patients undergo formal staging for distant metastasis and the most ...

Neutrophil Extracellular Traps Promote the Development and Progression of Liver Metastases after Surgical Stress

open access: yesCancer Research, 2016
Risks of tumor recurrence after surgical resection have been known for decades, but the mechanisms underlying treatment failures remain poorly understood.

Interaction of HS1BP3 with cortactin modulates TKS5 localisation, cell secretion and cancer malignancy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Here, we demonstrate that HS1BP3 interacts with Cortactin through a proline‐rich region (PRR3.1) and show that this interaction, and HS1BP3 itself, promote cancer cell proliferation and invasion. Inhibition of this interaction leads to build‐up of TKS5 in multivesicular endosomes and altered secretion of CD63 and CD9, providing an explanation for the ...

A systematic review of evidence on malignant spinal metastases : natural history and technologies for identifying patients at high risk of vertebral fracture and spinal cord compression [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Background: Spinal metastases can lead to significant morbidity and reduction in quality of life due to spinal cord compression (SCC). Between 5% and 20% of patients with spinal metastases develop metastatic spinal cord compression during the course of ...

Liver metastases.

open access: yesJBR-BTR : organe de la Societe royale belge de radiologie (SRBR) = orgaan van de Koninklijke Belgische Vereniging voor Radiologie (KBVR), 2011
Liver metastases are a very common site of distant metastases. Detection and accurate characterization of liver metastases is of importance to guide therapy. A variety of imaging modalities such as US (including contrast agents), MDCT, MRI with liver -specific contrast agents and PET/CT are available for this purpose.

Proteasome inhibitor, ixazomib prevents topoisomerase‐I degradation and reverses irinotecan resistance in colorectal cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Ixazomib inhibits proteasome‐mediated degradation of topoisomerase I induced by irinotecan, thereby restoring drug sensitivity and promoting tumor cell death in colorectal cancer. Irinotecan, a topoisomerase I (topoI) inhibitor, is widely used for colorectal cancer, but resistance remains a major clinical challenge.

Development of A Computer-Aided Detection (CAD) Tool For Contrast Micro Computed Tomography Imaging In Diagnosing Liver Metastases

open access: yes, 2012
High morbidity of metastatic tumors in the liver has been observed in several different types of cancers. Liver failure from metastases is one of the primary causes of death in these patients.

Ectopic fat in liver and skeletal muscle is associated with shorter overall survival in patients with colorectal liver metastases

open access: yes, 2021
Background Myosteatosis has been associated with shorter overall survival in cancer patients. The increase in ectopic fat might not be limited to skeletal muscle only and might also extend to other sites such as the liver, resulting in non-alcoholic ...

Kras mutation is a marker of worse oncologic outcomes after percutaneous radiofrequency ablation of colorectal liver metastases

open access: yesOncoTarget, 2017
Background Kras mutation has been associated with shorter overall survival and time to disease recurrence after resection of colorectal liver metastases (CLM).
