Structural and biochemical characterisations show that the planar cell polarity (PCP) protein Inturned harbours a unique PDZ‐like domain that does not bind canonical PDZ‐binding motifs (PBMs) like that of another PCP protein Vangl2. In contrast, the apical‐basal polarity protein Scribble contains four PDZ domains that bind Vangl2, but one PDZ domain ...

A bidirectional m-method for allocating spatial effects of special pile groups
The load distribution from a pile group to a single pile is the key issue in calculation of pile foundations. Aiming at the limitation that the one-way m-method in the Chinese specifications and codes is only applicable to plane action, the formulas are ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Performance Analysis and Flow Mechanism of Close-Range Overlapping Rotor in Hover
High payload capacity multi-rotor aerial vehicles are typically configured with multiple propellers to achieve the required aerodynamic lift. However, this design approach often results in an increased overall dimensional envelope, which introduces ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Simplified Load Distribution Factors for Fiber Reinforced Polymer Composite Bridge Decks
In recent years, researchers have investigated the load distribution factors due to vehicle wheel loads. Several load distribution factors for fiber reinforced polymer deck-steel stringer bridge systems have been proposed.

Optimum structural design based on reliability and proof-load testing [PDF]
Proof-load test eliminates structures with strength less than the proof load and improves the reliability value in analysis. It truncates the distribution function of strength at the proof load, thereby alleviating verification of a fitted distribution ...

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Long-Range Response to Transmission Line Disturbances in DC Electricity Grids
We consider a DC electricity grid composed of transmission lines connecting power generators and consumers at its nodes. The DC grid is described by nonlinear equations derived from Kirchhoff's law.
