World scientists’ warnings into action, local to global
‘We have kicked the can down the road once again – but we are running out of road.’ – Rachel Kyte, Dean of Fletcher School at Tufts University. We, in our capacities as scientists, economists, governance and policy specialists, are shifting from warnings

Local Governance and Community Action: How poor and marginalized people can achieve change [PDF]
Most people experience the impacts of governance, fair or unfair, at a very local level. It is where poor and marginalized people, including women, experience inequalities most keenly – in the way that issues that particularly concern them tend to get de-

Localization for nonabelian group actions
Suppose $X$ is a compact symplectic manifold acted on by a compact Lie group $K$ (which may be nonabelian) in a Hamiltonian fashion, with moment map $μ: X \to {\rm Lie}(K)^*$ and Marsden-Weinstein reduction $\xred = μ^{-1}(0)/K$. There is then a natural surjective map $κ_0$ from the equivariant cohomology $H^*_K(X) $ of $X$ to the cohomology $H^*(\xred)

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Subcellular drug targeting illuminates local kinase action
Deciphering how signaling enzymes operate within discrete microenvironments is fundamental to understanding biological processes. A-kinase anchoring proteins (AKAPs) restrict the range of action of protein kinases within intracellular compartments.

Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Women in Ugandan local government: the impact of affirmative action
Uganda has introduced affirmative action to ensure that women are represented on the various Councils which govern village affairs. This article asks what has changed as a result of women's presence on the Councils. Both women and men felt that women had

A profile of local government climate actions in Ireland [PDF]
With climate change already being experienced in many countries worldwide there is growing acceptance that significant, far-reaching actions are required to minimise its impacts.

Plasma membranes contain dynamic nanoscale domains that organize lipids and receptors. Because viruses operate at similar scales, this architecture shapes early infection steps, including attachment, receptor engagement, and entry. Using influenza A virus and HIV‐1 as examples, we highlight how receptor nanoclusters, multivalent glycan interactions ...
