How local is the local field potential? [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Neuroscience, 2011
Local field potentials (LFPs) are of growing importance in neurophysiological investigations. LFPs supplement action potential recordings by indexing activity relevant to EEG, magnetoencephalographic, and hemodynamic (fMRI) signals. Recent reports suggest that LFPs reflect activity within very small domains of several hundred micrometers.

Astrocytic Modulation of Local Field Potential Rhythm [PDF]

open access: yesFrontiers in Integrative Neuroscience, 2016
Ever since memory deficits were characterized in patient H.M. (Scoville and Milner, 1957), it has become clear that the hippocampal region is an important player in memory acquisition and retrieval. Not to mention that memory is of paramount importance for maintaining relationships, achieving personal and professional goals, and carrying out even ...

Dipolar extracellular potentials generated by axonal projections

open access: yeseLife, 2017
Extracellular field potentials (EFPs) are an important source of information in neuroscience, but their physiological basis is in many cases still a matter of debate.

Dynamic Moment Analysis of the Extracellular Electric Field of a Biologically Realistic Spiking Neuron [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Based upon the membrane currents generated by an action potential in a biologically realistic model of a pyramidal, hippocampal cell within rat CA1, we perform a moment expansion of the extracellular field potential.

Directional deep brain stimulation leads reveal spatially distinct oscillatory activity in the globus pallidus internus of Parkinson's disease patients

open access: yesNeurobiology of Disease, 2020
The goal of this study was to characterize the spectral characteristics and spatial topography of local field potential (LFP) activity in the internal segment of the globus pallidus (GPi) in patients with Parkinson's disease utilizing directional ...

Category-specific responses to faces and objects in primate auditory cortex

open access: yesFrontiers in Systems Neuroscience, 2008
Auditory and visual signals often occur together, and the two sensory channels are known to infl uence each other to facilitate perception. The neural basis of this integration is not well understood, although other forms of multisensory infl uences have

Loop Corrections in Double Field Theory: Non-trivial Dilaton Potentials [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
It is believed that the invariance of the generalised diffeomorphisms prevents any non-trivial dilaton potential from double field theory. It is therefore difficult to include loop corrections in the formalism.

Information encoding and reconstruction from the phase of action potentials

open access: yesFrontiers in Systems Neuroscience, 2009
Fundamental questions in neural coding are how neurons encode, transfer, and reconstruct information from the pattern of action potentials exchanged between different brain structures.

Stretching the Inflaton Potential with Kinetic Energy [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Inflation near a maximum of the potential is studied when non-local derivative operators are included in the inflaton Lagrangian. Such terms can impose additional sources of friction on the field. For an arbitrary spacetime geometry, these effects can be

Precision of Classification of Odorant Value by the Power of Olfactory Bulb Oscillations Is Altered by Optogenetic Silencing of Local Adrenergic Innervation

open access: yesFrontiers in Cellular Neuroscience, 2018
Neuromodulators such as noradrenaline appear to play a crucial role in learning and memory. The goal of this study was to determine the role of norepinephrine in representation of odorant identity and value by olfactory bulb oscillations in an olfactory ...
