Dévissage and localization for the Grothendieck spectrum of varieties

open access: yesAdvances in Mathematics, 2022
We introduce a new perspective on the $K$-theory of exact categories via the notion of a CGW-category. CGW-categories are a generalization of exact categories that admit a Qullen $Q$-construction, but which also include examples such as finite sets and varieties.

A Characterization of Minimal Locally Finite Varieties [PDF]

open access: yesTransactions of the American Mathematical Society, 1997
In this paper we describe a one–variable Mal′cev–like condition satisfied by any locally finite minimal variety. We prove that a locally finite variety is minimal if and only if it satisfies this Mal′cev–like condition and it is generated by a strictly simple algebra which is nonabelian or has a trivial subalgebra.
