Selective excitatory effects of γ‐glutamyl‐glycine, a glutathione metabolite, on GluN1 NMDA and mGlu5 receptors impacting synaptic plasticity

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Background and Purpose Gamma‐glutamyl dipeptides are essentially produced after glutathione (GSH) degradation. While several γ‐glutamyl dipeptides have been detected in different organs and body fluids, their biological activity remains elusive. This is the case for γ‐Glutamyl‐Glycine (γ‐Glu‐Gly) which has been found in different brain areas.

Positive modulation of glucagon‐like peptide 1 (GLP‐1) receptor by endogenous haemorphins with implications in glucose metabolism and diabetes

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Haemorphins act on GLP‐1 receptor (GLP‐1R) activity and signalling in a positive allosteric manner. This leads to potentiated GLP‐1‐mediated activity and signalling, as well as insulin synthesis, which may have implications for glucose metabolism and, thereby, diabetes and obesity. (The graph was created in BioRender.com).

An open-label, crossover pilot study of ultra-long acting β2-agonist olodaterol and short-acting β2-agonist salbutamol bronchodilating effect after inhalation in patients with asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease

open access: yes, 2018
Astmai un hroniskai obstruktīvai plaušu slimībai (HOPS) ir liela socio-ekonomiska ietekme uz sabiedrīebu un tās ir vienas no galvenajiem saslimstības un mirstības cēloņiem pasaulē.

Kininase I drives angiotensin II‐induced hypertension through activation of the bradykinin B1 receptor

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, EarlyView.
Abstract Background and Purpose Kininase I, comprising carboxypeptidase N (CPN) and carboxypeptidase M, regulates kinin activity and is up‐regulated during injury, inflammation and immune activation. Under these conditions, kininase I converts bradykinin and kallidin into des‐Arg kinins, primary endogenous agonists of the bradykinin B1 receptor (R ...

Characteristics, treatment patterns and burden of illness in US patients with asthma newly initiating multiple-inhaler triple therapy

open access: yesBMJ Open Respiratory Research
Introduction For patients with asthma who remain symptomatic on medium-dose inhaled corticosteroid/long-acting β2-agonist, add-on long-acting muscarinic antagonist is a treatment option, which can be administered as multiple-inhaler triple therapy (MITT).

Psychological Stress Promotes Tumor Growth in Hepatocellular Carcinoma Models Through Myeloid Signaling

open access: yesCancer Science, EarlyView.
Psychological stress promotes hepatocellular carcinoma progression through coordinated regulation of macrophages and neutrophils. Noradrenaline activates ADRB2 signaling in intratumoral macrophages, leading to CXCL2 production and neutrophil recruitment.
