Microstructures and impact toughness of low-alloy high-carbon steel austempered at low temperature
Scripta Materialia, 2009We studied the microstructure and impact toughness of low-alloy high-carbon steel austempered at low temperature. Ultrafine carbide-free bainitic microstructure was obtained, which is composed of lath-like bainitic ferrite and retained austenite. The impact absorbed energy of austempered samples is much greater than that of the low-temperature tempered

The chromium nitrides effects on duplex stainless steels low temperature impact toughness and durability were investigated. A duplex rolled ring was cut as different blocks, and different Cr2N amounts were obtained by trial heat treatments, with the solution annealing furnace temperature set at low and high levels, 1040 and 1140 °C respectively, and ...

Enhanced low-temperature impact toughness of nanostructured Ti
Applied Physics Letters, 2006Impact toughness is one of the major mechanical properties for structural materials. It is generally observed that in coarse-grained materials the impact toughness decreases with decreasing testing temperature. Here, we report that the impact toughness of nanostructured Ti processed by severe plastic deformation is enhanced at low temperatures of −70°C

Structural Turbulence of Pearlitic Steel 09G2S at Low-Temperature Impact Toughness
Physical Mesomechanics, 2020The study explores the effect of helical rolling on the low-temperature impact toughness of pearlitic steel 09G2S. Helical rolling in two modes was performed at T = 850°C in six passes through rolls of varied diameters with air cooling (mode I) and water quenching (mode II).

Impact toughness of austenitic steels at low temperatures
Metal Science and Heat Treatment, 19671. If austenite undergoes no change in the impact test than the impact toughness decreases monotonically with decreasing temperatures. 2. The martensite forming during the test increases the work of formation of the crack but reduces the work of its propagation. The curves of the impact toughness have peaks.

Effect of residual aluminum on impact toughness of steel at low temperatures
Metal Science and Heat Treatment of Metals, 19591. The transitional embrittlement of low carbon steel depends on the contents of aluminum and the ferritic grain size. 2. The higher the rate of cooling of steel from the austenite range, the finer the grain and the lower the tough-to-brittle transition temperature.

Enhancement of Impact Toughness in Mild Steel Weldments under Low Temperature Applications
Key Engineering Materials, 2020In this research, mild steel weldments are tested by varying nickel content into the weld beads. Three mild steel plates have been joined using three electrodes with similar chemical composition except nickel content 0%, 9-11% and 19-21% respectively, by SMAW process and keeping heat input constant at all.
