α-Tocopherol modulates the low density lipoprotein receptor of human HepG2 cells

open access: yesNutrition Journal, 2003
The aim of this study was to determine the effects of vitamin E (α-tocopherol) on the low density lipoprotein (LDL) receptor, a cell surface protein which plays an important role in controlling blood cholesterol. Human HepG2 hepatoma cells were incubated

Uptake mechanism of ApoE-modified nanoparticles on brain capillary endothelial cells as a blood-brain barrier model [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Background: The blood-brain barrier (BBB) represents an insurmountable obstacle for most drugs thus obstructing an effective treatment of many brain diseases.

CA9‐Targeted PET Imaging for Noninvasive Discrimination of Clear Cell Renal Cell Carcinoma and Associated Tumor Biological Features

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CA9‐targeted PET imaging could be a noninvasive approach to characterize clear cell renal cell carcinoma and associated tumor biology. PET uptake correlates with tumor CA9 expression and is linked to angiogenic activity, immune remodeling, and metabolic reprogramming.

Atherosclerosis is enhanced by testosterone deficiency and attenuated by CETP expression in transgenic mice

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2006
In this work, we investigated the impact of testosterone deficiency and cholesteryl ester transfer protein (CETP) expression on lipoprotein metabolism and diet-induced atherosclerosis. CETP transgenic mice and nontransgenic (nTg) littermates were studied

ANGPTL4 Exacerbates Renal Injury in Diabetic Kidney Disease by Impairing Podocyte Lipophagy via Compromised Lysosomal Degradative Function

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
In diabetic kidney disease, elevated podocyte ANGPTL4 is linked to reduced TFEB nuclear localization and compromised lysosomal degradative function. These changes impair podocyte lipophagy and promote lipid‐droplet accumulation and podocyte injury, which may contribute to renal injury progression.

Removal of chylomicron remnants in transgenic mice overexpressing normal and membrane-anchored hepatic lipase

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2005
The LDL receptor and the LDL receptor-related protein (LRP) mediate the removal of chylomicron remnants. The LRP pathway involves sequestration of particles in the space of Disse.

USP5 Stabilizes TGFBR1 to Drive Vascular Smooth Muscle Cell Senescence and Atherosclerosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that USP5 drives vascular smooth muscle cell senescence and atherosclerosis by stabilizing TGFBR1, suppressing IDH2, and promoting glycolytic reprogramming, identifying the USP5‐TGFBR1‐IDH2 axis as a potential therapeutic target. ABSTRACT Vascular smooth muscle cell (VSMC) senescence contributes importantly to atherosclerotic plaque ...

Upregulation of hepatic VLDLR via PPARα is required for the triglyceride-lowering effect of fenofibrate

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2014
The liver and the VLDL receptor (VLDLR) play major roles in TG and VLDL metabolism. However, the exact role of liver VLDLR is not well known because of the absence of or difficulty in detecting VLDLR in the liver.

Copper‐Doped Prussian Blue Nanozymes With Hyaluronic Acid‐Mediated Targeting Alleviate Oxidative Stress and Regulate Cholesterol Handling for Atherosclerosis Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CuPB@HA is a CD44‐associated, plaque‐targeted nanozyme that alleviates oxidative stress, inflammation, and lipid accumulation in macrophages. By reducing CD36‐dependent lipid uptake and promoting ABCA1/ABCG1‐mediated cholesterol handling, it improves macrophage function, preferentially accumulates in atherosclerotic lesions, reduces plaque burden, and ...

The recycling of apolipoprotein E and its amino-terminal 22 kDa fragment

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2004
A portion of apolipoprotein E (apoE) internalized by hepatocytes is spared degradation and is recycled. To investigate the intracellular routing of recycling apoE, primary hepatocyte cultures from LDL receptor-deficient mice and mice deficient in ...
