Silicone Breast Implants as a Model System for Understanding Polymer Permeation in Soft Materials In Vivo

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Silicone breast implants are presented as a model system for understanding polymer permeation in vivo. Rather than representing material failure, “gel bleed” emerges from solution–diffusion transport‐mediated. By integrating polymer architecture, physicochemical transport, and biointerfacial processes, this review provides a unified framework that ...

Low density lipoprotein-induced growth of U937 cells: a novel method to determine the receptor binding of low density lipoprotein.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1990
U937 is a monocytic cell-line originally derived from a histiocytic lymphoma. In serum-free medium the growth of U937 cells was stimulated by addition of low density lipoprotein (LDL).

Receptor-Independent Transfer of Low Density Lipoprotein Cargo to Biomembranes [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
The fundamental task of lipoprotein particles is extracellular transport of cholesterol, lipids, and fatty acids. Besides, cholesterol-rich apoB-containing lipoprotein particles (i.e., low density lipoprotein LDL) are key players in progression of ...

Near‐Infrared Light‐Activated Polydopamine Nanoparticles Conjugated With Transferrin Peptides for Enhanced Brain Accumulation

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that Tf‐PDA NPs combine a receptor‐mediated targeting with mild photothermal activation to enhance nanoparticle accumulation in the brain. NIR‐activated Tf‐PDA NPs increase BBB permeability to NPs in vitro and in vivo without inducing cytotoxicity or adverse immune responses.

The metabolic inter-relationships between changes in waist circumference, triglycerides, insulin sensitivity and small, dense low-density lipoprotein particles with acute weight loss in clinically obese children and adolescents. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
OBJECTIVE: Small, dense low-density lipoprotein (LDL) particles are highly atherogenic and strongly associated with obesity-related dyslipidemia. The metabolic inter-relationships between weight loss induced changes in waist circumference, triglycerides,

Mr BMT Achieves Systemic Macrophage Replacement With Preservation of Tissue Homeostasis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microglia replacement by bone marrow transplantation (Mr BMT) enables systemic replacement of tissue‐resident macrophages. Despite persistent macrophage and tissue remodeling across multiple organs, core biological functions and innate immune responses remain preserved, supporting long‐term maintenance of organismal homeostasis and the therapeutic ...

Engineering Approaches to Modify Immunomodulatory Functions of Mesenchymal Stromal Cells (MSCs): Tissue Regeneration and Clinical Application

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Mesenchymal stromal cells (MSCs) show promise for treating immune‐related disorders through immunomodulation and tissue regeneration. This review gives a brief overview of current clinical approval of MSC therapies. It also discussed how bioengineering, including genetic modification, biomaterial delivery, extracellular vesicles, and iPSC‐derived MSCs,

Diagnostic Challenges of LRP4 Antibody Testing in Myasthenia Gravis: A Case Series of Four LRP4 Positive Cases With Uncertain Diagnostic Significance

open access: yesCase Reports in Neurological Medicine
Myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune disorder characterized by muscle weakness due to impaired neuromuscular transmission. While antibodies against the acetylcholine receptor and muscle-specific kinase are commonly used for diagnosis, a subset of patients ...

Impact of a high-fat diet on dyslipidemia and gene expression of low-density lipoprotein receptors in male rats [PDF]

open access: yesIraqi Journal of Veterinary Sciences
Dyslipidemia is one of the leading causes of heart disease in human and pet animals. This study aimed to induce experimental dyslipidemia in adult male rats by a simple method via a high-fat diet. The 30 adult male rats were grouped as follows: The first

Engineering Microbial Particles for Next‐Generation Biomedical Platforms

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Microbe‐derived particles (MDPs), which include extracellular vesicles, outer membrane vesicles, inclusion bodies, polysaccharide particles, and virus‐like particles, represent a rapidly expanding category of bioinspired nanomaterials. With their natural origin, intrinsic biocompatibility, and highly programmable functionality, MDPs serve as a ...
