Effect of polymer concentration on the lifetime and transmittance behavior of a self-oscillating polymer chain with a high lower critical solution temperature

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2017
In this study, we investigated the lifetime and self-oscillating behavior of a polymer chain with a high lower critical solution temperature (LCST). The polymer chain comprised 4-vinyl-4´-methyl-2,2´-bipyridinebis(2,2´-bipyridine)bis(hexafluorophosphate)

Predictors of response and rational combinations for the novel MCL‐1 inhibitor MIK665 in acute myeloid leukemia

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study characterizes the responses of primary acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patient samples to the MCL‐1 inhibitor MIK665. The results revealed that monocytic differentiation is associated with MIK665 sensitivity. Conversely, elevated ABCB1 expression is a potential biomarker of resistance to the treatment, which can be overcome by the combination ...

Thermoresponsive surface functionalization of FeRh alloy through PNIPAM grafting [PDF]

open access: yesModern Electronic Materials
The smart thermoresponsive composite of PNIPAM/FeRh by chemical grafting of PNIPAM polymer on substrate of FeRh alloy were fabricated and studied. The characteristic peaks at 1690 (C=O), 2480–3000 (CH), and 3280 (N–H) observed on IR-FTIR spectra of ...

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Glycosylated LGALS3BP is highly secreted by bladder cancer cells and represents a novel urinary disease biomarker

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Urinary LGALS3BP is elevated in bladder cancer patients compared to healthy controls as detected by the 1959 antibody–based ELISA. The antibody shows enhanced reactivity to the high‐mannose glycosylated variant secreted by cancer cells treated with kifunensine (KIF).

Responsive Acrylamide-Based Hydrogels: Advances in Interpenetrating Polymer Structures

open access: yesGels
Hydrogels, composed of hydrophilic homopolymer or copolymer networks, have structures similar to natural living tissues, making them ideal for applications in drug delivery, tissue engineering, and biosensors.

Effect of temperature on foamability using a thermoresponsive polymer

open access: yesAIP Advances, 2018
We experimentally examine foam dynamics and foamability using a thermoresponsive polymer, Poly(n-isopropylacrylamide) or PNIPAM. Under a constant gas injection, our results show that temperature significantly affects the foam height produced.

Improving PARP inhibitor efficacy in bladder cancer without genetic BRCAness by combination with PLX51107

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Clinical trials on PARP inhibitors in urothelial carcinoma (UC) showed limited efficacy and a lack of predictive biomarkers. We propose SLFN5, SLFN11, and OAS1 as UC‐specific response predictors. We suggest Talazoparib as the better PARP inhibitor for UC than Olaparib.

Phase Separation Induced by Ladder-Like Polymer-Polymer Complexation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Polymer-polymer complexation in solvent is studied using an extension of the self-consistent field theory. The model polymers are capable of forming ladder-like duplex structures.

Cytoplasmic p21 promotes stemness of colon cancer cells via activation of the NFκB pathway

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Cytoplasmic p21 promotes colorectal cancer stem cell (CSC) features by destabilizing the NFκB–IκB complex, activating NFκB signaling, and upregulating BCL‐xL and COX2. In contrast to nuclear p21, cytoplasmic p21 enhances spheroid formation and stemness transcription factor CD133.
