Assessing Lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) Diets in Canadian Sea Cages Using Morphological and DNA Metabarcoding Analyses [PDF]

open access: yes
Lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) are used as a cleaner fish to control salmon lice (Lepeophtheirus salmonis) infestations in Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar) aquaculture, yet their dietary composition in Canadian sea cages remains understudied.

Long-distance migrations, population mixing, and growth rate of lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) revealed from tag-recaptures [PDF]

open access: yes
We reveal that lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) frequently migrate over long distances between their summer feeding area in the open ocean and their spring spawning sites in coastal areas, through applying tag-recapture methodology.

Lumpfish physiological response to chronic stress

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science
In this study, we explored the effects of chronic stress on lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) physiological, immune response, health, and plasma free amino acids. 3 groups of lumpfish were exposed to 1-minute air exposure.

Effects of light and temperature regimes on the sexual maturation of male lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus). [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Nowadays salmon lice (Lepeophtheirus salmonis) constitutes one of the biggest threats to the welfare of farmed Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). Lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) are currently deployed in sea cages with salmon as an effective biological ...

The digestion time for salmon louse (Lepeophtheirus salmonis) in lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus)

open access: yesAquaculture
Atlantic salmon aquaculture employs lumpfish as a control method to combat ectoparasites, given their unique cleaning behaviour. There are multiple studies which estimate the average number of salmon lice in the stomach contents of dissected lumpfish. However, these numbers cannot be used to assess the cleaning efficacy of lumpfish (e.g., the average ...

The Effect of Stress on the Skin Welfare in Lumpfish (Cyclopterus lumpus) Broodstock

open access: yes
The aim of the experiment was to investigate how induced stress can affect skin welfare of broodstock of lumpfish. From a population of approx. 300 fish of 1587 g (SEM ± 704 g), a sub-population of 20 fish were injected with 30 mg/kg fish cortisol implants 5 January 2018. The control group was not treated with implants.
