Respiratory Variations of Central Venous Pressure as Indices of Pleural Pressure Swings: A Narrative Review

open access: yesDiagnostics, 2023
The measurement of pleural (or intrathoracic) pressure is a key element for a proper setting of mechanical ventilator assistance as both under- and over-assistance may cause detrimental effects on both the lungs and the diaphragm.

Developing a Lung Model in the Age of COVID-19: A Digital Image Correlation and Inverse Finite Element Analysis Framework

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioengineering and Biotechnology, 2021
Pulmonary diseases, driven by pollution, industrial farming, vaping, and the infamous COVID-19 pandemic, lead morbidity and mortality rates worldwide. Computational biomechanical models can enhance predictive capabilities to understand fundamental lung ...

Mechanics of edematous lungs [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Applied Physiology, 2001
Using the parenchymal marker technique, we measured pressure (P)-volume (P-V) curves of regions with volumes of ∼1 cm3 in the dependent caudal lobes of oleic acid-injured dog lungs, during a very slow inflation from P = 0 to P = 30 cmH2O. The regional P-V curves are strongly sigmoidal.

Lung functions abnormalities among auto mechanics in Ogbomoso, Nigeria: Clinical correlates and determinants

open access: yesAnnals of Health Research, 2018
Background: Auto mechanics are exposed to various organic, inorganic and particulate matters as a result of their occupation. Determining the association between environmental pollutant and risk of lung function abnormalities among auto mechanics is ...

Assessment of pulmonary mechanical properties influence on patternsand indices of their ventilation mechanics in various biologicalconditions

open access: yesБюллетень сибирской медицины, 2007
Patterns and mechanics of pulmonary ventilation are studied in sharp experiment on living rabbits (n = 15), after their sacrificing (n = 15) and on isolated lungs (n = 7).

Understanding the mechanisms of lung mechanical stress [PDF]

open access: yesBrazilian Journal of Medical and Biological Research, 2006
Physical forces affect both the function and phenotype of cells in the lung. Bronchial, alveolar, and other parenchymal cells, as well as fibroblasts and macrophages, are normally subjected to a variety of passive and active mechanical forces associated with lung inflation and vascular perfusion as a result of the dynamic nature of lung function. These

Bone Marrow-Derived Mononuclear Cell Therapy in Papain-Induced Experimental Pulmonary Emphysema

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2018
Murine papain-induced emphysema is a model that reproduces many of the features found in patients. Bone marrow-derived mononuclear cells (BMMC) have already been used to repair the alveolar epithelium in respiratory diseases, but not in the papain model.

Photobiomodulation Therapy Restores IL-10 Secretion in a Murine Model of Chronic Asthma: Relevance to the Population of CD4+CD25+Foxp3+ Cells in Lung

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2022
It is largely known that photobiomodulation (PBM) has beneficial effects on allergic pulmonary inflammation. Our previous study showed an anti-inflammatory effect of the PBM in an acute experimental model of asthma, and we see that this mechanism is ...

Eicosapentaenoic Acid Enhances the Effects of Mesenchymal Stromal Cell Therapy in Experimental Allergic Asthma

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2018
Asthma is characterized by chronic lung inflammation and airway hyperresponsiveness. Despite recent advances in the understanding of its pathophysiology, asthma remains a major public health problem and, at present, there are no effective interventions ...

Time course of pulmonary burden in mice exposed to residual oil fly ash

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2014
Residual oil fly ash (ROFA) is a common pollutant in areas where oil is burned. This particulate matter with a broad distribution of particle diameters can be inhaled by human beings and putatively damage their respiratory system.
