Lung analysis in children mechanically ventilated with atelectasis after cardiac surgery

open access: yesFisioterapia e Pesquisa, 2015
The main objective of this study is to associate the healthy area of the lung (evaluated by radiography) with the data of respiratory mechanics in children with atelectasis after cardiac surgery, under mechanical ventilation in the assisted controlled ...

Monitoring respiratory mechanics by oscillometry in COVID-19 patients receiving non-invasive respiratory support.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2022
BackgroundNon-invasive ventilation (NIV) has been increasingly used in COVID-19 patients. The limited physiological monitoring and the unavailability of respiratory mechanic measures, usually obtainable during invasive ventilation, is a limitation of NIV

2,2'-azobis (2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride is a useful tool to impair lung function in rats

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2016
Recently, several studies have reported that respiratory disease may be associated with an increased production of free radicals. In this context, 2,2’-azobis (2-amidinopropane) dihydrochloride (AAPH) is a free radical-generating compound widely used to ...

Endotoxin-Induced Emphysema Exacerbation: A Novel Model of Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease Exacerbations Causing Cardiopulmonary Impairment and Diaphragm Dysfunction

open access: yesFrontiers in Physiology, 2019
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a progressive disorder of the lung parenchyma which also involves extrapulmonary manifestations, such as cardiovascular impairment, diaphragm dysfunction, and frequent exacerbations.

Unexpected pulmonary mechanics during positive pressure mechanical ventilation in fibrotic lung disease with concomitant flail chest

open access: yesRespiratory Medicine Case Reports, 2023
Understanding of pulmonary mechanics is essential to understanding mechanical ventilation. Typically, clinicians are mindful of peak and plateau pressures displayed on the ventilator and lung compliance, which is decreased in lung disease such as ...

Inhalationally Administered Semifluorinated Alkanes (SFAs) as Drug Carriers in an Experimental Model of Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2021
Aerosol therapy in patients suffering from acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) has so far failed in improving patients’ outcomes. This might be because dependent lung areas cannot be reached by conventional aerosols.

Epigenetic reprogramming of lineage switching in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Cancer cells rarely commit to a single identity. Epigenetic mechanisms and tumor microenvironment cues push epithelial cells toward flexible, hybrid states that can shift into mesenchymal, neuroendocrine, or stem‐like fates, driving metastasis, drug resistance, and tumor heterogeneity. Targeting the epigenetic regulators behind these transitions, using

Quantification of Age‐Related Lung Tissue Mechanics under Mechanical Ventilation

open access: yesMedical Sciences, 2017
Elderly patients with obstructive lung diseases often receive mechanical ventilation to support their breathing and restore respiratory function. However, mechanical ventilation is known to increase the severity of ventilator‐induced lung injury (VILI ...

Recurrent recruitment manoeuvres improve lung mechanics and minimize lung injury during mechanical ventilation of healthy mice. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2011
INTRODUCTION: Mechanical ventilation (MV) of mice is increasingly required in experimental studies, but the conditions that allow stable ventilation of mice over several hours have not yet been fully defined. In addition, most previous studies documented

A context‐dependent modulatory role for eIF6 in acquired resistance to vemurafenib in melanoma

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Acquired resistance to vemurafenib upregulates the translation factor eIF6 in melanoma cells. Silencing eIF6 in resistant cells reduces proliferation and partially restores drug sensitivity, whereas its overexpression increases sensitivity across melanoma lines regardless of BRAF status, via modulation of mTOR, S6K, and MAPK signaling.
