Real‐Time Neurochemical Sensing in Zebrafish: Electrochemical and Fluorescent Approaches
The use of zebrafish has emerged as a powerful approach for real‐time neurochemical measurements. This review highlights recent advances in electrochemical and fluorescent sensing strategies that enable dynamic measurements in live preparations of this complex vertebrate. These complementary approaches provide new insights into neurochemical signaling,

Glaucoma is one of the leading causes of blindness, and there is an ongoing need for new therapies. Recent studies indicate that cell transplantation using Müller glia may be beneficial, but there is a need for novel sources of cells to provide ...

Plagl1 regulates the retinal progenitor cell to Müller glial cell transition.
Müller glia arise from late-stage retinal progenitor cells (RPCs) as a distinct lineage that diverges from neurogenic trajectories. Here, we identify the maternally imprinted gene Plagl1 as a key transcriptional regulator of gliogenesis in the murine ...

Novel NaV1.6‐Mitochondrial Complexes in Retinal Astrocyte Pockets Sequester GABA
NaV1.6 localizes in retinal astrocytes' high density pockets on the bilayer facing the ganglion cell layer. NaV colocalizes with large, anaplerotic mitochondria. These microdomains accumulate high levels of GABA. ABSTRACT Voltage‐gated sodium channels are best known for their capacity to generate and propagate electrical currents in neurons and muscle.

Opioid Modulation of Major Neurotransmitter Systems: Acute, Chronic, and Withdrawal Effects
Opioids are widely used but also frequently misused drugs that affect multiple neurotransmitter systems, including dopaminergic, glutamatergic, GABAergic, serotonergic, and cholinergic pathways. Opioid‐induced neuroadaptations depend on the duration of drug exposure, with distinct changes also emerging following drug discontinuation.

(A) Müller-glia-enriched genes show stronger expression in retinal progenitors than do genes enriched in other postnatally born cell types. See Materials and Methods for details of how progenitor-enriched and cell-specific expression patterns were ...

Following CST, the stumps are connected by fibrous tissue in adult and juvenile rats, whereas they are connected by thin meningeal tissue in neonatal rats. The intensity of PDGFRβ‐positive fibroblasts associated with fibrotic scar formation at the lesion site was significantly higher in juvenile CST rats than in neonatal CST rats.

Retinal glia regulate development of the circadian photoentrainment circuit
Summary: Circadian photoentrainment depends on intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs), which convey environmental light information to the hypothalamus.

Early RPCs divide predominantly symmetrically and exhibit a high proliferation rate, resulting in rapid retinal growth. Late RPCs divide predominantly asymmetrically and exhibit a low proliferation rate. Our results suggest that TET‐deficient RPCs divide predominantly asymmetrically but exhibit a high proliferation rate.
