Optical Signature of Moiré Superlattices Formed by Twisted SrTiO3 Membranes

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We discover optical signatures from bonded interfaces in twisted SrTiO3 moiré superlattices, including low‐frequency Raman vibrational modes and strong second‐harmonic generation, consistent with strong interlayer coupling inferred from cross‐sectional electron microscopy and ab initio calculations. ABSTRACT Moiré superlattices formed at the interfaces

Imbalance polarization of M1/M2 macrophages in miscarried uterus

open access: yesPLOS ONE
Background Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) is well known to manifest a miscarriage-inducing effector during early pregnancy and activate macrophage to induce M1 macrophage polarization. However, the role of macrophage polarization in LPS-related miscarriage-inducing effect is not apparent.

Gangliosides enhance M2-polarized macrophage elongation induced by IL-4 and IL-13 [PDF]

open access: yesKosin Medical Journal
Background Macrophage polarization plays a crucial role in the immune response, and gangliosides regulate macrophage function. In this study, we investigated the role of gangliosides in modulating macrophage morphology and function in response to M2 ...

Talaromyces marneffei promotes M2-like polarization of human macrophages by downregulating SOCS3 expression and activating the TLR9 pathway

open access: yesVirulence, 2021
Little is known about how Talaromyces marneffei, a thermally dimorphic fungus that causes substantial morbidity and mortality in Southeast Asia, evades the human immune system.

Electrospun Wood‐Derived Biopolymers as Electrodes in Electrochemical Energy Storage Technologies

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Electrospinning transforms wood‐derived cellulose and lignin into architecturally defined, binder‐free carbon electrodes with tuneable porosity and functionality. This review shows how fibre design enables decoupled charge and mass transport, enhancing performance across battery systems, while identifying key challenges in spinnability, scalability ...

GLI3 Is Required for M2 Macrophage Polarization and M2-Mediated Waldenström Macroglobulinemia Growth and Survival

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences
Waldenstrom macroglobulinemia (WM) is a non-Hodgkin B-cell lymphoma, characterized by bone marrow infiltration with plasma cells and lymphocytes. The tumor microenvironment (TME) plays an important role in mediating WM cell biology, but the effects of macrophages on WM biology remains unclear.

Microbial metabolite butyrate facilitates M2 macrophage polarization and function

open access: yesScientific Reports, 2016
AbstractMetabolites from intestinal microbes modulate the mucosal immune system by regulating the polarization and expansion of T cells. Whether the microbial metabolites influence macrophage polarization, however, is poorly understood. Here, we show that the large bowel microbial fermentation product, butyrate, facilitates M2 macrophage polarization ...

Polarization singularities in the clear sky

open access: yes, 2004
Ideas from singularity theory provide a simple account of the pattern of polarization directions in daylight. The singularities (two near the Sun and two near the anti-Sun) are points in the sky where the polarization line pattern has index +1/2 and the ...

Embedded Ferroelectric Nanoclusters Can Drive Polarization Reversal in a Non‐Ferroelectric Polar Film via the Proximity Effect

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Ferroelectric nanoclusters create local internal fields in a normally non‐switchable polar film because of polarization mismatch at their interfaces. That field opposes polarization in the regions with larger polarization and reinforces polarization in the regions with smaller polarization.

Microstructure investigation and flow behavior during thixoextrusion of M2 steel grade [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The microstructure investigation and flow behavior during thixoforging of M2 steel parts were investigated. Partial remelting was performed at processing temperatures ranging from 1290 ◦C to 1340 ◦C corresponding to a liquid fraction range between 10 ...
