Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Molecular charge influences transperitoneal macromolecule transport

open access: yes, 1993
Molecular charge influences transperitoneal macromolecule transport. The influence of molecular charge on macromolecule transport during peritoneal dialysis was assessed by determining transperitoneal transport rates for fluorescent-labeled ...

Circular RNA expression landscapes in myelodysplastic neoplasms: Associations with mutational signatures and disease progression

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In this explorative study, the abundance of circular RNA molecules in bone marrow stem cells was found to be elevated in patients with high‐risk myelodysplastic neoplasms, and to be associated with an increased risk of progression to acute myeloid leukemia.

Simple graphical approach to investigate differences in transepithelial paracellular leak pathway permeability

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, 2022
Although many studies have reported differences in epithelial paracellular Leak Pathway permeability following genetic manipulations and treatment with various agents, the basis for these differences remains mostly unclear.

Subtype‐specific enhancer RNAs define transcriptional regulators and prognosis in breast cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study employed machine learning methodologies to perform the subtype‐specific classification of RNA‐seq data sets, which are mapped on enhancers from TCGA‐derived breast cancer patients. Their integration with gene expression (referred to as ProxCReAM eRNAs) and chromatin accessibility profiles has the potential to identify lineage‐specific and ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Common physical basis of macromolecule-binding sites in proteins

open access: yes, 2011
[[abstract]]Protein-DNA/RNA/protein interactions play critical roles in many biological functions. Previous studies have focused on the different features characterizing the different macromolecule-binding sites and approaches to detect these sites ...

Network divergence analysis identifies adaptive gene modules and two orthogonal vulnerability axes in pancreatic cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Tumors contain diverse cellular states whose behavior is shaped by context‐dependent gene coordination. By comparing gene–gene relationships across biological contexts, we identify adaptive transcriptional modules that reorganize into distinct vulnerability axes.

Anti-inflammatory effects of para-quinone methide derivatives on ulcerative colitis

open access: yesFrontiers in Pharmacology
A series of para-quinone methide derivatives were evaluated their anti-inflammatory activity. Through the screening of the lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-induced inflammatory cell model in Raw264.7 cells, it was found that the inhibitory activity of meta ...
