Analysis of carbohydrates and glycoconjugates by matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry: An update for 2021–2022

open access: yesMass Spectrometry Reviews, Volume 44, Issue 3, Page 213-453, May/June 2025.
Abstract The use of matrix‐assisted laser desorption/ionization (MALDI) mass spectrometry for the analysis of carbohydrates and glycoconjugates is a well‐established technique and this review is the 12th update of the original article published in 1999 and brings coverage of the literature to the end of 2022.

The Significance of Mono‐ and Dual‐Effective Agents in the Development of New Antifungal Strategies

open access: yesChemical Biology &Drug Design, Volume 105, Issue 1, January 2025.
The future of treating challenging fungal infections lies in novel therapies targeting new antifungal targets, overcoming resistance mechanisms, and exploring innovative dual inhibitors. ABSTRACT Invasive fungal infections (IFIs) pose significant challenges in clinical settings, particularly due to their high morbidity and mortality rates.

A Rare Presentation of Concurrent Scedosporium apiospermum and Madurella grisea Eumycetoma in an Immunocompetent Host

open access: yesCase Reports in Pathology, 2012
Mycetoma is a disfiguring, chronic granulomatous infection which affects the skin and the underlying subcutaneous tissue. We present an atypical case of recurrent mycetoma without ulceration, in a 35-year-old immunocompetent male caused by Scedosporium ...

Madurella grisea: a case report on an uncommon cause for mycetoma

open access: yesSri Lankan Journal of Infectious Diseases, 2017
Madura foot is a disfiguring, disabling condition, found in the tropics and subtropics. We present a case of a farmer who presented with swelling and multiple discharging sinuses in his left foot.

Phaeohyphomycosis caused by Trematosphaeria grisea in an immunocompromised English springer spaniel

open access: yesVeterinary Record Case Reports, Volume 12, Issue 4, December 2024.
Abstract A 10‐year‐old, male, farm‐based springer spaniel that presented with subacute progressive left‐sided central vestibular signs was diagnosed with meningoencephalitis of unknown origin. The patient received prednisolone (2 mg/kg/day orally), ciclosporin (5 mg/kg orally twice a day) and a single infusion of cytarabine (200 mg/m2). Six weeks later,

Photokatalytische CO2 Reduktion mit CO2‐bindenden Enzymen

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie, Volume 136, Issue 16, April 15, 2024.

Photocatalytic CO2 Reduction Using CO2‐Binding Enzymes

open access: yesAngewandte Chemie International Edition, Volume 63, Issue 16, April 15, 2024.
A novel promiscuous activity of the phenolic acid decarboxylase from Bacillus subtilis and other CO2‐binding enzymes is described. The enzymes catalyze the photocatalytic CO2 reduction in the presence of a Ru(bpy)3 photosensitizer, exhibiting high selectivity for CO2 reduction over proton reduction (up to 93 %).

Using (1,3)‐β‐D‐glucan concentrations in serum to monitor the response of azole therapy in patients with eumycetoma caused by Madurella mycetomatis

open access: yesMycoses, Volume 67, Issue 1, January 2024.
Abstract Introduction (1,3)‐β‐D‐glucan is a panfungal biomarker secreted by many fungi, including Madurella mycetomatis, the main causative agent of eumycetoma. Previously we demonstrated that (1,3)‐β‐D‐glucan was present in serum of patients with eumycetoma.

A Retrospective Review of Neglected Tropical Diseases Diagnosed on Histopathological Specimens in the Free State Province, South Africa, 2015–2020

open access: yesJournal of Tropical Medicine, Volume 2024, Issue 1, 2024.
Background. Neglected tropical diseases (NTDs) are a heterogeneous group of medical conditions that commonly occur in underprivileged populations. NTDs are primarily diagnosed in tropical areas. Although South Africa is not situated in a tropical region, the high poverty rate makes the country susceptible to some NTDs. Limited data are available on the
