Magnesium-Containing Slurry as Technogenic Alternative Raw Material for Magnesium Oxychloride Cement [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
It has been shown experimentally that a waste of magnesium metal production is a realistic alternative to naturally occurring cement raw materials. The waste is the carnallite slurry forming during the chlorination stage.

Mechanistic basis for inhibition of the extended‐spectrum β‐lactamase GES‐1 by enmetazobactam and tazobactam

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is of huge importance, resulting in over 1 million deaths each year. Here, we describe how a new drug, enmetazobactam, designed to help fight resistant bacterial diseases, inhibits a key enzyme (GES‐1) responsible for AMR. Our data show it is a more potent inhibitor than the related tazobactam, with high‐level computation

The Metamorphosis of Mg(SO3CF3)2‐based Electrolytes for Rechargeable Magnesium Batteries

open access: yesChemElectroChem
Cost‐effective, non‐corrosive and non‐nucleophilic Mg(SO3CF3)‐based electrolytes with high anodization stability are promising candidates for realizing high‐performance rechargeable magnesium batteries (RMBs). Since the 1990s, the community has developed

Features and classification of solid solution behavior of ternary Mg alloys

open access: yesJournal of Magnesium and Alloys
The performance of Mg alloys is significantly influenced by the concentrations and solid solution behavior of the alloying elements. In this work, the solid solution behavior of 20 alloying elements in 190 ternary Mg alloy systems at 500 °C are ...

Intravenous infusion of magnesium sulfate and its effect on horses with trigeminal-mediated headshaking. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
BackgroundTrigeminal-mediated headshaking results from low-threshold firing of the trigeminal nerve resulting in apparent facial pain. Magnesium may have neuroprotective effects on nerve firing that potentially dampen signs of neuropathic pain.

C9orf72 ALS‐causing mutations lead to mislocalization and aggregation of nucleoporin Nup107 into stress granules

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Mutations in the C9orf72 gene represent the most common genetic cause of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a fatal neurodegenerative disease. Using patient‐derived neurons and C. elegans models, we find that the nucleoporin Nup107 is dysregulated in C9orf72‐associated ALS. Conversely, reducing Nup107 levels mitigates disease‐related changes.

Magnesium and Drugs [PDF]

open access: yesInternational Journal of Molecular Sciences, 2019
Several drugs including diuretics and proton-pump inhibitors can cause magnesium loss and hypomagnesemia. Magnesium and drugs use the same transport and metabolism pathways in the body for their intestinal absorption, metabolism, and elimination. This means that when one or more drug is taken, there is always a potential risk of interaction with the ...
