Interpreting BERT architecture predictions for peptide presentation by MHC class I proteins [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
The major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class-I pathway supports the detection of cancer and viruses by the immune system. It presents parts of proteins (peptides) from inside a cell on its membrane surface enabling visiting immune cells that detect non-self peptides to terminate the cell.

Cell stress-regulated human major histocompatibility complex class I gene expressed in gastrointestinal epithelium.

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences of the United States of America, 1996
Conventional major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class I genes encode molecules that present intracellular peptide antigens to T cells. They are ubiquitously expressed and regulated by interferon gamma.

Strategies to Design and Optimize Artificial Antigen‐Presenting Cells for T Cell Expansion in Cancer Immunotherapy

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
This review highlights recent advances in engineering artificial antigen‐presenting cells (aAPCs) as alternatives to dendritic cells for T cell expansion. Key design principles inspired by the immunological synapse are discussed, with emphasis on strategies for polyclonal and antigen‐specific T cell expansion.

Major Histocompatibility Complex and Malaria: Focus on Plasmodium vivax infection

open access: yesFrontiers in Immunology, 2016
The importance of host and parasite genetic factors in malaria resistance or susceptibility has been investigated since the middle of the last century. Nowadays, of all diseases that affect man, malaria still plays one of the highest levels of selective ...

USMPep: universal sequence models for major histocompatibility complex binding affinity prediction

open access: yesBMC Bioinformatics, 2020
Background Immunotherapy is a promising route towards personalized cancer treatment. A key algorithmic challenge in this process is to decide if a given peptide (neoepitope) binds with the major histocompatibility complex (MHC). This is an active area of

Prediction of a T-cell/MHC-I-based immune profile for colorectal liver metastases from CT images using ensemble learning [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2023
Colorectal cancer liver metastases (CLM) are the most common type of distant metastases originating from the abdomen and are characterized by a high recurrence rate after curative resection. It has been previously reported that CLM presenting a low cluster of differentiation 3 (CD3) positive T-cell infiltration density concurrent with a high major ...

Bioengineering a Patient‐Derived Vascularized Lung Tumor‐on‐Chip Model to Decipher Immunomodulation by the Endothelium

open access: yesAdvanced Healthcare Materials, EarlyView.
Most in vitro cancer models lack cellular diversity, functional complexity, and clinical relevance. This work highlights the generation of an innovative dynamic tetraculture with autologous patient‐derived cells within a vascularized tumor‐on‐chip, as well as the recapitulation of endothelial anergy features induced by the tumor microenvironment ...

Fcγ Receptor–mediated Induction of Dendritic Cell Maturation and Major Histocompatibility Complex Class I–restricted Antigen Presentation after Immune Complex Internalization

open access: yesJournal of Experimental Medicine, 1999
Dendritic cells (DCs) express several receptors for the Fc portion of immunoglobulin (Ig)G (FcγR), which mediate internalization of antigen–IgG complexes (immune complexes, ICs) and promote efficient major histocompatibility complex (MHC) class II ...

Excess of homozygosity in the major histocompatibility complex in schizophrenia [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
Genome-wide association studies (GWAS) in schizophrenia have focused on additive allelic effects to identify disease risk loci. In order to examine potential recessive effects, we applied a novel approach to identify regions of excess homozygosity in an ...

Engineering CAR‐T Therapeutics for Enhanced Solid Tumor Targeting

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
CART cell therapy has proven effective for blood cancers but struggles with solid tumors due to diverse antigens and complex environments. Recent efforts focus on improving CAR design and validation platforms. Advances in protein engineering, machine learning, and organoid systems aim to enhance CAR‐T therapy against solid tumors.
