Investigation of P. Vivax Elimination via Mass Drug Administration [PDF]
Plasmodium vivax is the most geographically widespread malaria parasite due to its ability to remain dormant (as a hypnozoite) in the human liver and subsequently reactivate. Given the majority of P. vivax infections are due to hypnozoite reactivation, targeting the hypnozoite reservoir with a radical cure is crucial for achieving P. vivax elimination.

Epidemiology, drug resistance, and pathophysiology of Plasmodium vivax malaria
Malaria, caused by the protozoan parasites of the genus Plasmodium, is a major health problem in many countries of the world. Five parasite species namely, Plasmodium falciparum, P. vivax, P. malariae, P. ovale, and P.

Evaluation of Three Rapid Tests for Diagnosis of P. Falciparum and P. Vivax Malaria in Colombia. [PDF]
The diagnostic capacity of three malaria rapid diagnostic tests (RDTs), NOW-Malaria-ICT, OptiMAL-IT, and Paracheck-Pf, was evaluated against expert microscopy in Colombia. We tested 896 patients, of whom microscopy confirmed 139 P.

Theoretical implications of a pre-erythrocytic Plasmodium vivax vaccine for preventing relapses [PDF]
Preventing malaria infection through vaccination requires preventing every sporozoite inoculated by mosquito bite: a major challenge for Plasmodium falciparum.

The detection rate of enzymatic recombinase amplification (ERA) was better than that of the rapid diagnostic test. The ERA assay was more convenient than fluorescence quantitative PCR. The ERA assay can be used as a complementary tool for malaria screening and clinical diagnosis.

Concurrent meningitis and vivax malaria
Malaria is an endemic infectious disease in India. It is often associated with other infective conditions but concomitant infection of malaria and meningitis are uncommon. We present a case of meningitis with vivax malaria infection in a 24-year-old lady.

Severe Plasmodium vivax Malaria in Pakistan
To compare the severity of Plasmodium vivax malaria with that of P. falciparum malaria, we conducted a retrospective cross-sectional study of 356 adults hospitalized with malaria (2009–2011) in Pakistan. P. vivax and P.

BACKGROUND Anemia is a major complication of vivax malaria. Anti-phosphatidylserine (PS) antibodies generated during falciparum malaria mediate phagocytosis of uninfected red blood cells (RBCs) that expose PS, and have been linked to late malarial-anemia.

Malaria in Nonimmune Travelers [PDF]
Background: With the current increase of international travel to tropical endemic areas, the incidence of malaria being imported into nonendemic countries has increased significantly.
