Plasmodium vivax liver stage assay platforms using Indian clinical isolates
Background Vivax malaria is associated with significant morbidity and economic loss, and constitutes the bulk of malaria cases in large parts of Asia and South America as well as recent case reports in Africa.

Individual-level factors associated with the risk of acquiring human Plasmodium knowlesi malaria in Malaysia: a case-control study [PDF]
Background: The emergence of human malaria due to the monkey parasite Plasmodium knowlesi threatens elimination efforts in southeast Asia. Changes in land use are thought to be driving the rise in reported P knowlesi cases, but the role of individual ...

Imported Plasmodium vivax Malaria ex Pakistan [PDF]
According to WHO, 1.5 million cases of malaria are reported annually in Pakistan. Malaria distribution in Pakistan is heterogeneous, and some areas, including Punjab, are considered at low risk for malaria. The aim of this study is to describe the trend of imported malaria cases from Pakistan reported to the international surveillance systems from 2005

Genomic Insights Into Host Shifts Between Plasmodium vivax and Plasmodium simium in Latin America
ABSTRACT Malaria in Latin America is largely caused by Plasmodium vivax, but the closely related monkey parasite Plasmodium simium has recently been observed in humans, thus raising new public health concerns. By screening 719 monkey samples from five Latin America countries, we identified 23 Plasmodium‐positives.

Artemisinin combination therapy for vivax malaria [PDF]
Early parasitological diagnosis and treatment with artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs) are key components of worldwide malaria elimination programmes. In general, use of ACTs has been limited to patients with falciparum malaria whereas blood-stage infections with Plasmodium vivax are mostly still treated with chloroquine.

Prospective evaluation of artemether-lumefantrine for the treatment of non-falciparum and mixed-species malaria in Gabon [PDF]
Background: The recommendation of artemisinin combination therapy (ACT) as first-line treatment for uncomplicated falciparum malaria is supported by a plethora of high quality clinical trials.

Erythrocyte membrane protein 3 (EMAP3) is a novel Plasmodium berghei protein that is trafficked to the outer membrane surface of the infected red blood cell (iRBC). EMAP3 is not critical for parasite growth or sequestration but offers a new scaffold for displaying Plasmodium falciparum proteins on iRBCs.

Chemotherapeutics for vivax malaria [PDF]
Plasmodium vivax imposes significant burdens of morbidity and mortality across the malaria endemic world. Treatment of this infection requires a blood schizontocide against the acute attack and hypnozoitocide against relapses. Chloroquine combined with primaquine has been the therapy of choice for radical cure of vivax malaria since the 1950s ...

Distinct inflammatory profile underlies pathological increases in creatinine levels associated with Plasmodium vivax malaria clinical severity. [PDF]
Although Plasmodium vivax infection is a frequent cause of malaria worldwide, severe presentations have been more regularly described only in recent years.
