The Arabidopsis ATK1 gene is required for spindle morphogenesis in male meiosis [PDF]

open access: yes, 2002
The spindle plays a central role in chromosome segregation during mitosis and meiosis. In particular, various kinesins are thought to play crucial roles in spindle structure and function in both mitosis and meiosis of fungi and animals.

Genetic Linkage for Bipolar Disorder to the Distal Region of Chromosome 19q: A Large Family Whole Genome Sequencing Study

open access: yesBipolar Disorders, Volume 28, Issue 4, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Bipolar disorder (BD) is among the most heritable psychiatric disorders, with a genetic architecture likely consisting of both common genetic variants with small effects and rare variants with strong effects in certain families or populations.

The RING Domain of Rice HEI10 is Essential for Male, But Not Female Fertility

open access: yesRice
HEI10 is a conserved E3 ubiquitin ligase involved in crossover formation during meiosis, and is thus essential for both male and female gamete development.

Induction of putative tetraploid larvae and analysis of unfertilized egg storage for burbot (Lota lota)

open access: yesJournal of the World Aquaculture Society, Volume 57, Issue 3, June 2026.
Abstract Burbot (Lota lota) are a promising candidate for commercial aquaculture production. Methods for captive culture are well understood, the species is highly regarded for its muscle, roe, liver, and skin, and its resistance to many salmonid pathogens coupled with the species' affinity to trout‐like water quality conditions make burbot an ...

Somatic genome‐doubling is the most parsimonious route to allopolyploidy

open access: yesNew Phytologist, Volume 250, Issue 5, Page 2845-2851, June 2026.
Summary The origin of a polyploid can hinge on a single errant cell division, a mistake in the cell cycle that leads to genome‐doubling and re‐writes the rules of chromosome pairing and segregation. In plants, the evolutionary significance of these errors is magnified by lack of an early sequestered germline, meaning somatic mutations can be heritable.

Chronic Hypoxia Disrupts Spermatogenesis Through ASXL2–EZH2–Mediated Microtubule Destabilization

open access: yesAdvanced Science, Volume 13, Issue 26, 8 May 2026.
This study reveals the mechanism by which chronic hypoxia impairs spermatogenesis via the ASXL2–EZH2 axis, hindering the transition of spermatids from round to elongated forms. Key findings reveal that under hypoxic conditions, downregulated ASXL2 expression reduces EZH2 binding to the CEP162 promoter, leading to decreased H3K27me3 modification and ...
