Comparative study of adenosine 3′‐pyrophosphokinase domains of MuF polymorphic toxins

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
With the ultimate goal of understanding the association of toxin‐immunity modules to temperate phages, we characterized toxins from three prophages and examined cross‐protection from immunity proteins. The toxins exhibit adenosine 3′‐pyrophosphokinase activity and are toxic in Escherichia coli.

A dynamic intermediate state limits the folding rate of a discontinuous two-domain protein [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2021
Protein folding is an indispensable process for the majority of proteins after their synthesis from ribosomes in the cell. Most in vitro protein folding studies have focused on single-domain proteins. Hence, it is important to understand the folding process of multi-domain proteins, especially when domains are discontinuous.

A Strong and Water‐Retaining Biomass Adhesive Inspired by Tofu

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Drawing inspiration from the formation mechanism of the traditional food tofu, a strong and water‐retaining adhesive is designed using the soybean meal (SM) oxidized by glucose oxidase (GOx) and calcium sulfate oligomer (CSO). This design strategy effectively addresses the conflicting requirements of water‐resistant bonding strength and water retention

Axial and Radial Spatial Patterns of Non-Structural Carbohydrates in Cycas micronesica Stems

open access: yesPlants, 2018
The pachycaulous stem of arborescent cycad species exhibits unique traits and has received limited research. To date, nothing is known about the axial and radial spatial patterns of non-structural resources within cycad stems. Cycas micronesica K.D. Hill

Intraoral Drug Delivery: Bridging the Gap Between Academic Research and Industrial Innovations

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Intraoral drug delivery offers a promising route for systemic and localized therapies, yet challenges such as enzymatic degradation, limited permeability, and microbial interactions hinder efficacy. This figure highlights innovative strategies—mucoadhesive materials, enzyme inhibitors, and permeation enhancers—to overcome these barriers.

The transcription factors Atf1 and Pcr1 are essential for transcriptional induction of the extracellular maltase Agl1 in fission yeast. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2013
The fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe secretes the extracellular maltase Agl1, which hydrolyzes maltose into glucose, thereby utilizing maltose as a carbon source.

Slowing down of water dynamics in disaccharide aqueous solutions [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
The dynamics of water in aqueous solutions of three homologous disaccharides, namely trehalose, maltose and sucrose, has been analyzed by means of molecular dynamics simulations in the 0-66 wt % concentration range. The low-frequency vibrational densities of states (VDOS) of water were compared with the susceptibilities chi" of 0-40 wt % solutions of ...
