The Sustainability of South African Current Account Deficits [PDF]

open access: yes
Deficits in the South African current account since 2003 have been met with growing concern by economists. As these deficits reached unprecedented levels, questions about the sustainability of the country's external position have begun to arise.

Cell Adhesion by Design: Engineering Tissue Culture Scaffolds With Adhesion Cues

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Interfaces, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT In scaffold‐based tissue engineering, the matrix should provide adequate adhesion cues for cell attachment, spreading, and function. Given the multitude of adhesion receptors and the diversity of scaffolds, there are many approaches to render scaffolds adhesive, even though they are not all equivalent.

Who is credit constrained among denied or discouraged borrowers?". [PDF]

open access: yes
Since the seminal work of Jappelli (1990), it has become standard to identify as liquidity-constrained, borrowers who were either turned down for credit or did not apply because they might be turned down.

3D Printed Multimaterial Microfluidic Transistors

open access: yesAdvanced Materials Technologies, EarlyView.
We introduce a biocompatible, high resolution photopolymer resin that closely mimics the Young's Modulus (elasticity) and reversible stretchability (no hysteresis) of poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS), enabling the fabrication of microfluidic transistors (i.e., microvalves capable of proportional amplification) by multimaterial stereolithography (mSLA ...

Optimization of extraction and concentration of anthocyanins from roselle (Hibiscus sabdariffa l.) by aqueous extraction and nanofiltration [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
To prepare roselle extract, dried calyces of Hibiscus sabdariffa cultivar CLT 92 from Senegal, were mixed with plain water To optimize the aqueous extraction of anthocyanins from Roselle calyces, five ratios calyces/water (kg/kg) were studied (1/5, 1/10,

Hybrid Continuum Robot Designs and Architectures for Healthcare Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Robotics Research, EarlyView.
Hybrid continuum robots represent an emerging class of flexible manipulators that blend materials, structures, and actuation concepts from the established fields of soft and continuum robotics. This review introduces an accessible framework to distinguish key hybridization approaches, surveys current designs aimed at complex clinical applications, and ...

CDK4/6 Inhibition Induces CD8+ T Cell Antitumor Immunity via MIF‐Induced Functional Orchestration of Tumor‐Associated Macrophages

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
CDK4/6 inhibition promotes CD8+ T cell expansion through tumor‐macrophage crosstalk by activating HIF‐1α and enhancing MIF‐CD44/CD74 signaling. This reprograms TAMs to boost MHC‐I antigen presentation, and CDK4/6 inhibitor‐trained M1 TAM supernatant therapy synergizes with low‐dose PD‐1 blockade to restore antitumor immunity.
