Infrared laser sampling of low volumes combined with shotgun lipidomics reveals lipid markers in palatine tonsil carcinoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nanosecond infrared laser (NIRL) low‐volume sampling combined with shotgun lipidomics uncovers distinct lipidome alterations in oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma (OPSCC) of the palatine tonsil. Several lipid species consistently differentiate tumor from healthy tissue, highlighting their potential as diagnostic markers.

A Hierarchical Inverse Lithography Method Considering the Optimization and Manufacturability Limit by Gradient Descent

open access: yesMicromachines
Inverse lithography technology (ILT) based on the gradient descent (GD) algorithm, which is a classical local optimal method, can effectively improve the lithographic imaging fidelity.

Temperature-Independent Ultrasensitive Fabry–Perot All-Fiber Strain Sensor Based on a Bubble-Expanded Microcavity

open access: yesIEEE Photonics Journal, 2014
A fiber Fabry-Perot interferometer (FPI) based on a bubble-expanded microcavity is investigated in this paper. Due to the expanded bubble microcavity, the FPI exhibits high strain sensitivity of 30.66 pm/με.

Online Manipulation: Hidden Influences in a Digital World [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Privacy and surveillance scholars increasingly worry that data collectors can use the information they gather about our behaviors, preferences, interests, incomes, and so on to manipulate us.

A tunable rf SQUID manipulated as flux and phase qubit

open access: yes, 2009
We report on two different manipulation procedures of a tunable rf SQUID. First, we operate this system as a flux qubit, where the coherent evolution between the two flux states is induced by a rapid change of the energy potential, turning it from a ...

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Real-time optical micro-manipulation using optimized holograms generated on the GPU

open access: yes, 2010
Holographic optical tweezers allow the three dimensional, dynamic, multipoint manipulation of micron sized dielectric objects. Exploiting the massive parallel architecture of modern GPUs we can generate highly optimized holograms at video frame rate ...

Crucial parameters for precise copy number variation detection in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded solid cancer samples

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study shows that copy number variations (CNVs) can be reliably detected in formalin‐fixed paraffin‐embedded (FFPE) solid cancer samples using ultra‐low‐pass whole‐genome sequencing, provided that key (pre)‐analytical parameters are optimized.

Manipulation Robustness of Collaborative Filtering Systems

open access: yes, 2009
A collaborative filtering system recommends to users products that similar users like. Collaborative filtering systems influence purchase decisions, and hence have become targets of manipulation by unscrupulous vendors.

Phenotypic and genotypic characterization of single circulating tumor cells in the follow‐up of high‐grade serous ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Single circulating tumor cells (sCTCs) from high‐grade serous ovarian cancer patients were enriched, imaged, and genomically profiled using WGA and NGS at different time points during treatment. sCTCs revealed enrichment of alterations in Chromosomes 2, 7, and 12 as well as persistent or emerging oncogenic CNAs, supporting sCTC identity.
