Trustability-Based Dynamic Active Learning for Crowdsourced Labelling of Emotional Audio Data

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2018
The process of collecting annotated data is expensive and time-consuming. Making use of crowdsourcing instead of experts in a laboratory setting is a viable alternative to reduce these costs.

Automatic Count of Bites and Chews From Videos of Eating Episodes

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2020
Methods for measuring of eating behavior (known as meal microstructure) often rely on manual annotation of bites, chews, and swallows on meal videos or wearable sensor signals.

A novel quinazolinone insulin receptor inhibitor and its synergy with an EGFR inhibitor in glucose‐driven glioblastoma

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The novel styrylquinazolinone‐based molecule W1B effectively suppresses glioblastoma by inhibiting IGF1R and EGFR. In high‐glucose microenvironments driving tumor resistance, W1B acts synergistically with the EGFR inhibitor dacomitinib. This combination safely blocks compensatory survival signaling in zebrafish xenograft models. Showcasing promising in

An Automated Image Segmentation, Annotation, and Training Framework of Plant Leaves by Joining the SAM and the YOLOv8 Models

open access: yesAgronomy
Recognizing plant leaves in complex agricultural scenes is challenging due to high manual annotation costs and real-time detection demands. Current deep learning methods, such as YOLOv8 and SAM, face trade-offs between annotation efficiency and inference

Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

Modality annotation for Portuguese: from manual annotation to automatic labeling

open access: yesLinguistic Issues in Language Technology, 2016
We investigate modality in Portuguese and we combine a linguistic perspective with an application-oriented perspective on modality. We design an annotation scheme reflecting theoretical linguistic concepts and apply this schema to a small corpus sample to show how the scheme deals with real world language usage.

A light‐triggered Time‐Resolved X‐ray Solution Scattering (TR‐XSS) workflow with application to protein conformational dynamics

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Time‐resolved X‐ray solution scattering captures how proteins change shape in real time under near‐native conditions. This article presents a practical workflow for light‐triggered TR‐XSS experiments, from data collection to structural refinement. Using a calcium‐transporting membrane protein as an example, the approach can be broadly applied to study ...

A Methodology towards Effective and Efficient Manual Document Annotation: Addressing Annotator Discrepancy and Annotation Quality [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Manual document annotation is an essential technique for knowledge acquisition and capture. Creating high-quality annotations is a difficult task due to inter-annotator discrepancy, the problem that annotators can never agree completely on what and exactly how to annotate.
