Adverse Effects of Atrinal (Dikegulac) on Plane Tree, Red Maple, and Norway Maple
Arboriculture & Urban Forestry, 1988The adverse effects of trunk injected Atrinal (Maag, Inc.) were monitored to determine factors which may influence their occurrence. The foliar appearance of Atrinal injected plane tree, red maple, and Norway maple trees was used as an indication of phytotoxicity. Planes were the most sensitive to the phytotoxic effects of Atrinal followed by red maple,

Effect of Backfill Amendment on Growth of Red Maple
Arboriculture & Urban Forestry, 1995AbstractBalled-and-burlapped red maple (Acer rubrum) trees were planted in holes backfilled with 1) native soil, 2) 50:50 (v/v) aged pine bark: soil, 3) 50:50 (v/v) Mr. Natural Concentrated Landscape Media (CLM): soil, and 4) 100% CLM. Rapid capture of growing space by red maple
Canadian Journal of Forest Research, 2009Red maple ( Acer rubrum L.) is becoming increasingly dominant in forest stands throughout the eastern United States. To investigate the reasons for the increase, we examined the development of red maple and oak ( Quercus spp.) seedlings and stump sprouts following the harvest of oak-dominated stands.

Anatomy and Morphology of Select Red Maple Cultivars
Arboriculture & Urban Forestry, 1995AbstractThis study was conducted to compare and define foliage features of select red maple and red maple hybrid cultivars under similar environmental conditions. Nine red maple (Acer rubrum) cultivars, three Freeman maple (Acerxfreemanii) cultivars, and a red maple seedling selection were evaluated in a field study for differences in average leaf area,

Forest Science
Abstract Maple syrup is an important nontimber forest product in the northern latitudes of North America but has regained popularity in more southerly regions, including Kentucky. We provide the first formal investigation of the relationships between tree attributes and sap production parameters for red maple (Acer rubrum) and sugar ...

WOUND OCCLUSION AND DISCOLOURATION COLUMNS IN RED MAPLE
New Phytologist, 1985SummaryRed maple (Acer rubrum L.) stems (15–25 cm diam. at breast height) were wounded in the autumn or spring with horizontal, 1‐cm wide chain‐saw cuts 4 to 6 cm deep and 10 to 16 cm long. Wound occlusion (VO, vertical occlusion, at the wound side), bark dieback (BD, failure of horizontal occlusion above and below the wound), and the length of ...
