Evolution of the coupled Bénard-Marangoni convection
Physical Review A, 1989A weakly nonlinear theory that describes the onset of the combined Benard-Marangoni convection is presented. All relevant transport coefficients are taken to be temperature dependent. When the boundaries are, thermally, nearly insulating, the instability is weak and the perturbed fluid-air interface is found to be proportional to the temperature field ...

Thermovision applied to Benard-Marangoni convection
Applied Optics, 1982Thermovision is a technique which visualizes the superficial temperatures of materials through the infrared radiation emitted by their surface. This technique is applied to a study of Benard-Marangoni convection. Isotherms of convective cells (hexagons as well as pentagonal and heptagonal defects) are presented.

Control of long-wavelength Marangoni–Bénard convection
Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1999A nonlinear feedback control strategy for delaying the onset and eliminating the subcritical nature of long-wavelength Marangoni–Bénard convection is investigated based on an evolution equation. A control temperature is applied to the lower wall in a gas–liquid layer otherwise heated uniformly from below.

On doubly diffusive Marangoni convection
Chemical Engineering Science, 1995The paper deals with the cellular convection resulting from the parallel mass transfer of two components. It is shown that the case analysed cannot be regarded as fully equivalent to that of the simultaneous mass and heat transport due to the effect of the phenomena occurring in the Gibbs dividing layer.

Marangoni convection in a tear film
Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 1982Abstract It is shown theoretically that Marangoni convection may exist in a human tear film due to the diffusion of mucin. However, the temperature drop across the tear film is not capable of generating Marangoni convection.

Square Patterns in Bénard-Marangoni Convection
Physical Review Letters, 1996The evidence of square patterns in B\'enard-Marangoni convection relatively far above threshold is demonstrated for the first time by means of a direct numerical integration of the three-dimensional Navier-Stokes equations. It is shown that regular squares are only obtained for a finite Prandtl number.

Marangoni Convection With a Deforming Interface
Heat Transfer in Microgravity Systems, 1994Abstract A computational study of thermocapillary, small Pr convection in a cavity with a deforming interface is performed. The free surface deflection is incorporated via domain perturbation in the limit of the Capillary number Ca → 0.
