Marangoni Convection With a Deformable Surface

Journal of Applied Mechanics, 1994
Double diffusive convection is considered in a semi-infinite domain, bounded below by a solid surface and above by a gas interface. Temperature and concentration gradients are imposed normal to the free surface and the linear stability of the fluid is examined. Traditional analyses are extended to include the effects of a deformable free surface.

Inertial Bénard–Marangoni convection

Journal of Fluid Mechanics, 1997
Two-dimensional surface-tension-driven Bénard convection in a layer with a free-slip bottom is investigated in the limit of small Prandtl number using accurate numerical simulations with a pseudospectral method complemented by linear stability analysis and a perturbation method. It is found that the system attains a steady state consisting

Heat transfer optimization and sensitivity analysis of Marangoni convection in nanoliquid with nanoparticle interfacial layer and cross-diffusion effects

International Communications in Heat and Mass Transfer, 2021
Heat and mass transfer induced by Marangoni forces occur frequently in crystal growth and heat pipes, especially in microgravity situations. Therefore, the heat and mass transfer optimization in the thermosolutal Marangoni boundary layer flow of a ...

Chemo-Marangoni Convection

Journal of Colloid and Interface Science, 1993
A linear convective stability analysis has been carried out for a liquid-liquid system subject to an interfacial chemical reaction whose reactants are capable of changing the surface tension. Conditions for the occurrence of chemocapillary Marangoni convection have been defined and their dependence on a number of physicochemical parameters, including ...

Heat and mass transfer in a tri-layer system with magnetohydrodynamics and Marangoni convection for thermal management

The Physics of Fluids
This study investigates the complex interaction between Rayleigh–Bénard and Marangoni convection in liquid metal batteries (LMBs), which are essential for efficient large-scale energy storage.

Irreversibility estimation in triply stratified bio-marangoni convection in powell-eyring nanofluid under the influence of external flow

Physica Scripta
Due to the growing importance of bioconvection phenomena in diverse industrial processes such as oil refining, biotechnology, and food processing, it is essential to examine several effects like a chemical reaction, stratification, Marangoni convection ...

Marangoni Convection in a Square Porous Cavity

International Journal of Computational Fluid Dynamics, 1998
Convection may occur in different processes, which may not depend on the buoyancy force. One of these processes is due to the surface tension gradient also known as Marangoni convection. Such convection creates a strong flow leading to instability for a fluid. Porous medium consists of solid matrix with an interconnected void filled with a fluid. A new

Impact of magnetic induction on the flow of self-rewetting power-law fluid over a disk surface: Onset of Marangoni convection

Numerical Heat Transfer, Part A Applications
In the present investigation, the onset of Marangoni convection in the flow of self-rewetting fluid over a stretching disk has been discussed. The self-rewetting fluid is considered to be electrically conducting and the flow problem is discussed under ...

Evolution of the coupled Bénard-Marangoni convection

Physical Review A, 1989
A weakly nonlinear theory that describes the onset of the combined Benard-Marangoni convection is presented. All relevant transport coefficients are taken to be temperature dependent. When the boundaries are, thermally, nearly insulating, the instability is weak and the perturbed fluid-air interface is found to be proportional to the temperature field ...
