NONPOTENTIAL EFFECTS IN NONLINEAR DYNAMICS OF MARANGONI CONVECTION
International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2002Nonpotential effects in nonlinear evolution of Marangoni convection patterns are investigated analytically and numerically. Three manifestations of nonpotential effects are considered: (i) spatial modulations of hexagonal patterns; (ii) interaction between a short-scale hexagonal pattern and a long-scale slow deformational (Goldstone) mode; (iii ...

Marangoni Convection in Radiating Fluids
Journal of Heat Transfer, 1987The onset of Marangoni convection driven by surface tension gradients in radiating fluid layers is studied. The system considered consists of a fluid layer of infinite horizontal extent which is confined between a free upper surface and a rigid isothermal lower surface.

Axisymmetric Marangoni convection in microencapsulation
Acta Astronautica, 2005Abstract Spherical shells used as laser targets in inertial confinement fusion (ICF) experiments are made by microencapsulation. In one phase of manufacturing, the spherical shells contain a solvent (fluorobenzene (FB)) and a solute (polystyrene (PAMS)) in a water–FB environment.

PATTERN SELECTION IN BÉNARD-MARANGONI CONVECTION
International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 1994Pattern formation in fluids with a free flat upper surface is examined. On that surface, the Marangoni effect provides an additional instability mechanism. Based on amplitude equations it is shown that phase instabilities confine the region of stable hexagons to a narrow band of wavelengths.

Marangoni convection in a rectangular container
Forschung im Ingenieurwesen, 1998If the free liquid-gas interface of a liquid in a rectangular Container is subjected to a temperature gra-dient the shear stress on the free liquid surface being temperature dependent transmits by viscous traction a thermo-capillary convection into the bulk of the liquid.

Nonlinear Benard-Marangoni Convection
Journal of the Physical Society of Japan, 1987Weakly nonlinear thermal convection in a horizontal fluid layer bounded above by a free surface is studied by taking effects of the surface tension gradient into account. It is found that the critical Rayleigh number, the horizontal size of convection cells and the instability of the convection can be affected by the surface tension gradient.
