Marangoni Convection in Radiating Fluids

Journal of Heat Transfer, 1987
The onset of Marangoni convection driven by surface tension gradients in radiating fluid layers is studied. The system considered consists of a fluid layer of infinite horizontal extent which is confined between a free upper surface and a rigid isothermal lower surface.

MHD Double‐diffusive thermosolutal Marangoni convection non‐Newtonian Casson fluid flow over a permeable stretchable sheet

Heat Transfer, 2020
In the present paper, we have discussed the thermosolutal Marangoni force acting on the electrically conducting Casson fluid flow over a permeable horizontal stretching surface.

NONPOTENTIAL EFFECTS IN NONLINEAR DYNAMICS OF MARANGONI CONVECTION

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 2002
Nonpotential effects in nonlinear evolution of Marangoni convection patterns are investigated analytically and numerically. Three manifestations of nonpotential effects are considered: (i) spatial modulations of hexagonal patterns; (ii) interaction between a short-scale hexagonal pattern and a long-scale slow deformational (Goldstone) mode; (iii ...

Axisymmetric Marangoni convection in microencapsulation

Acta Astronautica, 2005
Abstract Spherical shells used as laser targets in inertial confinement fusion (ICF) experiments are made by microencapsulation. In one phase of manufacturing, the spherical shells contain a solvent (fluorobenzene (FB)) and a solute (polystyrene (PAMS)) in a water–FB environment.

Marangoni Convection With a Deforming Interface

Heat Transfer in Microgravity Systems, 1994
Abstract A computational study of thermocapillary, small Pr convection in a cavity with a deforming interface is performed. The free surface deflection is incorporated via domain perturbation in the limit of the Capillary number Ca → 0.

PATTERN SELECTION IN BÉNARD-MARANGONI CONVECTION

International Journal of Bifurcation and Chaos, 1994
Pattern formation in fluids with a free flat upper surface is examined. On that surface, the Marangoni effect provides an additional instability mechanism. Based on amplitude equations it is shown that phase instabilities confine the region of stable hexagons to a narrow band of wavelengths.

Numerical study on combined buoyancy–Marangoni convection heat and mass transfer of power-law nanofluids in a cubic cavity filled with a heterogeneous porous medium

International Journal of Heat and Fluid Flow, 2018
In this paper, the combined buoyancy–Marangoni convection of non-Newtonian power-law nanofluids in a 3D heterogeneous porous cubic cavity is investigated in detail with the compact high order finite volume method.
