Latest Insights into Marek’s Disease Virus Pathogenesis and Tumorigenesis

open access: yesCancers, 2020
Marek’s disease virus (MDV) infects chickens and causes one of the most frequent cancers in animals. Over 100 years of research on this oncogenic alphaherpesvirus has led to a profound understanding of virus-induced tumor development.

Marek’s disease virus and skin interactions [PDF]

open access: yesVeterinary Research, 2014
Marek's disease virus (MDV) is a highly contagious herpesvirus which induces immunosuppression and T-cell lymphoma in chicken. This virus still circulates in flocks despite forty years of vaccination, with important economical losses at the world level.

Occurrence of Marek’s disease in Poland on the basis of diagnostic examination in 2015–2018

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Research, 2020
Marek’s disease (MD) is a tumourous disease caused by Marek’s disease virus (MDV) and most commonly described in poultry. The aim of the study was to determine the occurrence of Marek’s disease virus infections in Poland and analyse clinical cases in the

Marek’s Disease Virus [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Marek’s disease (MD) is caused by an oncogenic alphaherpesvirus, a common lymphoproliferative inducing agent usually characterized by mononuclear cellular infiltrates, mostly T-cell lymphomas in various visceral organs and peripheral nerves. The genome is linear and made up of double-stranded DNA molecules of nearly 160–180 kb in size.

Marek’s disease virus US3 protein kinase phosphorylates chicken HDAC 1 and 2 and regulates viral replication and pathogenesis

open access: yesPLoS Pathogens, 2021
Marek’s disease virus (MDV) is a potent oncogenic alphaherpesvirus that elicits a rapid onset of malignant T-cell lymphomas in chickens. Three MDV types, including GaHV-2 (MDV-1), GaHV-3 (MDV-2) and MeHV-1 (HVT), have been identified and all encode a US3

Morphological and Immunohistochemical Examination of Lymphoproliferative Lesions Caused by Marek’s Disease Virus in Breeder Chickens

open access: yesAnimals, 2020
Marek’s disease is widely controlled by vaccination programs; however, chickens are not totally protected, especially immediately after the vaccination when a strong challenge could interfere with the effectiveness of vaccination in the absence of proper

MAREK'S DISEASE HERPES VIRUS: A CYTOMEGALOVIRUS? [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, 1969
The DNA of herpes viruses associated with Marek's disease of fowl contains 56-57 moles of guanine and cytosine per 100. The composition of its DNA and lack of infectiousness of cell-free preparations suggest that the herpes virus associated with Marek's disease belongs to the herpes virus group B which contains predominantly cytomegaloviruses.

The Meq Gene Molecular Profile of Marek’s Disease Virus Serotype 1 From Kampung and Arabic Chicken Farms in Sukabumi, West Java, Indonesia

open access: yesHayati Journal of Biosciences, 2016
There is an increasing trend to use molecular approaches to the study of Marek’s disease virus serotype 1 (MDV-1), the causative agent for the neoplastic syndrome of chickens known as Marek’s disease.

First molecular detection and characterization of Marek’s disease virus in red-crowned cranes (Grus japonensis): a case report

open access: yesBMC Veterinary Research, 2018
Background Marek’s disease virus (MDV) resides in the genus Mardivirus in the family Herpesviridae. MDV is a highly contagious virus that can cause neurological lesions, lymphocytic proliferation, immune suppression, and death in avian species, including
