Measurement of Mass Flow Rate of Sap in Ligustrum japonicum [PDF]

open access: yesHortScience, 1990
The heat balance method of measuring mass flow of sap was tested on wax leaf ligustrum (Ligustrum japonicum Thunb.) to evaluate its usefulness for measuring water use in shrubs. Sap flow measurements were compared with gravimetric estimates of transpiration in growth chamber and field ...

Design and analysis strategies for robust microbiome ageing research

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The gut microbiome changes with age and associates with age‐related morbidity and mortality, establishing it as a potential biomarker and intervention target for ageing. Realising this potential requires methodological rigour, yet distinguishing biological signals from methodological artefacts remains challenging across cohorts. This review provides an

Experimental and Numerical Study on the Thermal Performance of a Water/Steam Cavity Receiver

open access: yesEnergies, 2013
An experimental platform was designed and built for testing the thermal performance of a water/steam cavity receiver. The experimental platform was utilized to investigate the start-up performance and operation characteristics of the receiver.

Improving on mass flow rate estimates of volcanic eruptions [PDF]

open access: yesGeophysical Research Letters, 2012
We introduce a novel analytical expression that allows for fast assessment of mass flow rate of both vertically‐rising and bent‐over volcanic plumes as a function of their height, while first order physical insight is maintained. This relationship is compared with a one‐dimensional plume model to demonstrate its flexibility and then validated with ...

Mass flow rate control of solenoid-based injectors

open access: yes, 2023
This paper presents a mass flow rate control method for solenoid-based injectors in open-loop, i.e. without physical sensor feedback. Measuring the mass flow rate in injectors is important because the performance of the injector determines fuel ...

Dimethyl fumarate combined with cisplatin at subcytotoxic doses sensitizes cervical cancer toward ferroptosis and apoptosis through GSH restriction and p53 (re)activation

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Dimethyl fumarate (DMF) reduces growth of HPV‐positive cervical cancer spheroids and induces ferroptosis in cervical cancer cells via blocking SLC7A11/Glutathione (GSH) axis. Combination of subcytotoxic doses of DMF and cisplatin (CDDP) further suppresses spheroid growth and drives cell death in 2D culture models.

Pre‐analytical optimization of cell‐free DNA and extracellular vesicle‐derived DNA for mutation detection in liquid biopsies

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Pre‐analytical handling critically determines liquid biopsy performance. This study defines practical best‐practice conditions for cell‐free DNA (cfDNA) and extracellular vesicle–derived DNA (evDNA), showing how processing time, storage conditions, tube type, and plasma input volume affect DNA integrity and mutation detection.
