Maternal Preconception Antibiotic Exposure Disrupts Microbial Succession: A Transgenerational Risk for Offspring Gut Mucosal Immaturity and Colitis Susceptibility

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study reveals that maternal antibiotic exposure prior to conception disrupts intergenerational gut microbial succession. By enhancing maternal‐offspring microbial transmission, altering microbial developmental trajectories and increasing selective pressures during community assembly, these disturbances lead to persistent gut mucosal immaturity and

Identification and separation of DNA mixtures using peak area information [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
We introduce a new methodology, based upon probabilistic expert systems, for analysing forensic identification problems involving DNA mixture traces using quantitative peak area information.

NanoLoop: A Deep Learning Framework Leveraging Nanopore Sequencing for Chromatin Loop Prediction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Chromatin loops are central to gene regulation and 3D genome organization. Leveraging Nanopore sequencing's ability to jointly capture DNA sequence and methylation, we present NanoLoop, the first framework for genome‐wide chromatin loop prediction using Nanopore data.

Early maternal separation: Neurobehavioral consequences in mother rats

open access: yesBehavioural Brain Research, 2013
Repeated separation of dams from their pups during the postpartum period may evoke emotional stress in the dam. In the present study we investigated whether prolonged maternal separation is stressful for rat dams by studying different behavioral and central responses known to be affected by stress.

miR‐135a‐5p Is a Promising Target to Prevent the Glomerulosclerosis Associated with Podocyte Developmental Toxicity in Offspring Induced by Prenatal Dexamethasone Exposure

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Prenatal dexamethasone exposure (PDE) programs persistent podocyte developmental injury and adult glomerulosclerosis. Mechanistically, glucocorticoid receptor (GR) binds the miR‐135a‐5p promoter and recruits the histone acetyltransferase p300, increasing promoter histone acetylation and sustaining miR‐135a‐5p expression. Elevated miR‐135a‐5p suppresses

Early Life Adversity Alters the Developmental Profiles of Addiction-Related Prefrontal Cortex Circuitry

open access: yesBrain Sciences, 2013
Early adverse experience is a well-known risk factor for addictive behaviors later in life. Drug addiction typically manifests during adolescence in parallel with the later-developing prefrontal cortex (PFC).

Parental brain: cerebral areas activated by infant cries and faces. A comparison between different populations of parents and not. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
Literature about parenting traditionally focused on caring behaviors and parental representations. Nowadays, an innovative line of research, interested in evaluating the neural areas and hormones implicated in the nurturing and caregiving responses, has ...

IGFBP5 Restores Endometrial Receptivity and Rescues Implantation Failure in Polycystic Ovary Syndrome

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Impaired endometrial receptivity contributes to the poor pregnancy outcomes in women with PCOS. The authors found that decreased endometrial IL‐22 levels and disrupted STAT3‐IGFBP5 signaling pathway contributed to impaired endometrial receptivity. Supplementation with IL‐22 or IGFBP5 exerts a protective effect on implantation failure in PCOS‐like mice,

Infant Day Care and the Working Mother: A Proposal for Reducing Maternal Anxiety [PDF]

open access: yes, 1969
My interest in the day care of children of working mothers was stimulated by my recent involvement in a study of the need for day care facilities in Kitchener-Waterloo.
