Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Time series modelling and forecasting of mpox incidence and mortality in Nigeria

open access: yesBMC Infectious Diseases
The World Health Organization (WHO) declared mpox a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) twice, in response to the global outbreak, first in May 2022 and again in August 2024, after a span of 2 years and 3 months.

The effect of travel restrictions on the geographical spread of COVID-19 between large cities in China: a modelling study

open access: yesBMC Medicine, 2020
Background To contain the spread of COVID-19, a cordon sanitaire was put in place in Wuhan prior to the Lunar New Year, on 23 January 2020. We assess the efficacy of the cordon sanitaire to delay the introduction and onset of local transmission of COVID ...

Finite-Time Stabilization of Unstable Orbits in the Fractional Difference Logistic Map

open access: yesFractal and Fractional, 2023
A control scheme for finite-time stabilization of unstable orbits of the fractional difference logistic map is proposed in this paper. The presented technique is based on isolated perturbation impulses used to correct the evolution of the map’s ...

Computational and Mathematical Modelling of the EGF Receptor System [PDF]

open access: yes, 2008
This chapter gives an overview of computational and mathematical modelling of the EGF receptor system. It begins with a survey of motivations for producing such models, then describes the main approaches that are taken to carrying out such modelling, viz.

Mathematical Modelling for Pulping System in Paper industry

open access: yes, 2023
: The paper discusses the pulping system in paper industry consisting of four subsystems in series. Failure and repair rates in various subsystems are taken to be constant. Formulation of the problem is carried out using simple probability considerations.

Residual tail twisting in ascidian larvae is stabilized by asymmetric myofibrils that resist bilateral symmetry restoration

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ascidian Ciona larvae initially show strong clockwise tail twisting, which is largely corrected during development. However, a small residual twist remains. This study shows that organized helical myofibrils in tail muscles mechanically stabilize this residual asymmetry, preventing complete restoration of bilateral symmetry and revealing how embryos ...

Estimating the duration of seropositivity of human seasonal coronaviruses using seroprevalence studies [version 2; peer review: 3 approved]

open access: yesWellcome Open Research, 2021
Background: The duration of immunity against severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) is still uncertain, but it is of key clinical and epidemiological importance.

Mathematical Models of Consciousness [PDF]

open access: yesEntropy, 2020
In recent years, promising mathematical models have been proposed that aim to describe conscious experience and its relation to the physical domain. Whereas the axioms and metaphysical ideas of these theories have been carefully motivated, their mathematical formalism has not. In this article, we aim to remedy this situation. We give an account of what
