Matrine: Bioactivities and Structural Modifications

Current Topics in Medicinal Chemistry, 2016
Matrine is a quinolizidine alkaloid isolated from the roots of Sophora flavescens (Kushen), Sophora tonkinensis, and Sophora alopecuroides (Kudouzi). Matrine and its derivatives have displayed a broad scope of biological properties such as anticancer activity, anti-inflammatory activity, antiviral activity, analgesic effect, anti-fibrotic activity ...

Evolution of matrinic ethanol derivatives as anti-HCV agents from matrine skeleton

Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry Letters, 2017
Twenty-two novel 12N-substituted matrinic ethanol derivatives were synthesized and evaluated for their antiviral activities against HCV taking compound 1 as the lead. The SAR study indicated that the shortening of the 11-butyl chain to ethyl chain did not affect the activity significantly. Out of the target compounds, matrinic ethanol 6a demonstrated a

A Short Synthesis of (±)-Matrine

Angewandte Chemie International Edition, 1998
Three different radical reactions were used in a short total synthesis of (±)-matrine (1). Two of the four six-membered rings and four new bonds were created in one radical cascade involving intermolecular addition followed by two successive cyclizations and transfer of a xanthate group.

Ocular Anti-Inflammatory Actions of Matrine

Journal of Ocular Pharmacology and Therapeutics, 1987
Matrine is an alkaloid isolated from the root of Sophora subprostrata (Leguminosae) which has been used as a Chinese medicine for the treatment of inflammation. Instillation of 50 microliter of 1% matrine showed significant inhibition of ocular inflammation induced by lens proteins. Unlike corticosteroids, matrine did not facilitate the IOP recovery in

Five matrine-type alkaloids from Sophora tonkinensis

Journal of Natural Medicines, 2021
Five matrine-type alkaloids (1‒5) including two new compounds (1 and 3) and a new natural product (2) were isolated from the roots of Sophora tonkinesis. Their structures were identified by extensive spectroscopic analysis (UV, IR, HRESIMS and NMR). The absolute configurations of 2 and 3 were determined by X-ray diffraction.

Antinociceptive effects of (+)-matrine in mice

European Journal of Pharmacology, 1997
The antinociceptive potency of matridin-15-one ((+)-matrine) was examined using the acetic acid-induced abdominal contraction test and the tail-flick test in mice. (+)-Matrine, at doses of 1 to 10 mg/kg, s.c., produced a marked and dose-dependent inhibition of the number of acetic acid-induced abdominal contractions in mice.

Total synthesis of (±)-matrine

J. Chem. Soc., Chem. Commun., 1986
The total synthesis of matrine based on a N-acyliminium ion cyclization as the key step to construct the tetracyclic skeleton, and the X-ray crystal structure of 8-oxomatrine, are reported.
