The local calcification inhibitor matrix Gla protein in pseudoxanthoma elasticum

Clinical Biochemistry, 2008
Recent studies have revealed the involvement of calcification inhibitory proteins in the pathogenesis of pseudoxanthoma elasticum (PXE).We analyzed serum concentrations of the calcification inhibitor matrix Gla protein (MGP) in a large cohort of patients suffering from PXE (n=101), 34 first-degree relatives and 67 healthy controls.

Functional Role of Matrix gla Protein in Glioma Cell Migration

Molecular Neurobiology, 2017
Glioblastoma multiforme (GBM) is the most common and aggressive brain tumor subtype. Despite that metastasis of GBM beyond the central nervous system (CNS) is rare, its malignancy is attributed to the highly infiltration trait, leading to the difficulty of complete surgical excision.

Serum total matrix Gla protein: Reference interval in healthy adults and variations in patients with vascular and osteoarticular diseases.

Clinica chimica acta; international journal of clinical chemistry, 2019
BACKGROUND Matrix Gla protein (MGP) species are inhibitors of ectopic calcification in vascular diseases (VD) and osteoarticular diseases (OD). Among the MGP assays, we aimed to establish the reference interval for serum total MGP (tMGP) in healthy ...

Vitamin K-dependent car☐ylase: utilization of decar☐ylated bone Gla protein and matrix Gla protein as substrates

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Protein Structure and Molecular Enzymology, 1991
The ability of des-gamma-carboxy bone Gla protein (dBGP) and des-gamma-carboxy matrix Gla protein (dMGP) to act as substrates for the rat liver vitamin K-dependent carboxylase has been investigated. An amino-terminal 'propeptide' is present on the intracellular form of BGP and is thought to interact with a recognition site on the enzyme.

Matrix gla protein: An extracellular matrix protein regulates myostatin expression in the muscle developmental program

Life Sciences, 2017
Skeletal muscle development involves interactions between intracellular and extracellular factors that act in concert to regulate the myogenic process. Matrix gla protein (MGP), a well-known inhibitor of calcification in soft tissues, has been reported to be highly up-regulated during myogenesis. Our interest in the regulation of muscle satellite cells

Retinoic acid increases matrix gla protein in rat plasma

Nutrition Research, 1993
Abstract The administration of retinoic acid to rats at dosages which achieve circulating levels of 1 μM or more causes a 40 to 50 percent increase in plasma levels of matrix Gla protein (MGP) within 24 hr. This increase is consistent with previous studies which demonstrate strong induction of MGP gene expression by 1 μM retinoic acid in several cell

Controlling Magnesium Corrosion and Degradation-Regulating Mineralization using Matrix GLA Protein.

Acta Biomaterialia, 2019
Magnesium (Mg) alloys are embraced for their biodegradability and biocompatibility. However, Mg degrades spontaneously in the biological environment in vivo and in vitro, triggering deposition of calcium phosphate on the metal.
