Chitinase-3 like-protein-1, matrix metalloproteinase -9 and positive intracranial arterial remodelling

open access: yesFrontiers in Aging Neuroscience, 2023
IntroductionPositive intracranial arterial remodelling is a dilated lesion of the large intracranial vessels; however, its pathogenesis is currently unknown.

Matrix metalloproteinase 9 gene-MMP9-DNA methylation status in Turkish schizophrenia patients

open access: yesTürk Biyokimya Dergisi, 2023
Schizophrenia is a neuropsychiatric disease caused by disorders in brain development due to genetic and environmental factors. The interactions and mechanisms of the two main etiological factors are not fully understood despite neurobiological, clinical ...

The role of miR‐335‐5p in the redifferentiation of BRAF p.V600E thyroid cancers

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The BRAF p.V600E mutation promotes thyroid cancer dedifferentiation and radioiodine resistance. Using a network approach, we identified miR‐335‐5p as a key regulator of BRAF‐mutated thyroid tumors. Restoring miR‐335‐5p increased thyroid‐specific gene expression and iodine uptake in cells and organoids.

Assessment of Matrix Metalloproteinases a Prognostic Indicator in Advanced Fibrotic Lung Disease: A Systematic Review

open access: yesPakistan Journal of Medicine and Dentistry
Background: Fibrotic lung diseases were seen to have devastating effects among patients globally. Matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) including MMP-7, MMP-9, and MMP-1 have become promising biomarkers for idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis (IPF), and other ...

Osteopontin is proteolytically processed by matrix metalloproteinase 9 [PDF]

open access: yesCanadian Journal of Physiology and Pharmacology, 2015
Osteopontin is robustly upregulated following myocardial infarction (MI), which suggests that it has an important role in post-MI remodeling of the left ventricle (LV). Osteopontin deletion results in increased LV dilation and worsened cardiac function.

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Engineered extracellular vesicles enriched with the miR‐214/199a cluster enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy in ovarian cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Loss of the miR‐214/199a cluster is associated with recurrence in ovarian cancer. Engineered small extracellular vesicles (m214‐sEVs) elevate miR‐214‐3p/miR‐199a‐5p in tumor cells, suppress β‐catenin, TLR4, and YKT6 signaling, reprogram tumor‐derived sEV cargo, reduce chemoresistance and migration, and enhance carboplatin efficacy and survival in ...

The Role of MMP-9 and MMP-9 Inhibition in Different Types of Thyroid Carcinoma

open access: yesMolecules, 2023
Matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9), one of the most investigated and studied biomarkers of the MMPs family, is a zinc-dependent proteolytic metalloenzyme whose primary function is degrading the extracellular matrix (ECM).

Hijacking emergency granulopoiesis: Neutrophil ontogeny and reprogramming in cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Neutrophils are highly plastic innate immune cells; their functions in cancer extend beyond the tumour microenvironment. This Review summarises current understanding of neutrophil maturation and heterogeneity and highlights tumour‐induced granulopoiesis as a systemic programme that expands immature, immunosuppressive neutrophils via tumour‐derived ...
