A Matrix Splitting Method for Composite Function Minimization [PDF]

open access: yes2017 IEEE Conference on Computer Vision and Pattern Recognition (CVPR), 2017
Composite function minimization captures a wide spectrum of applications in both computer vision and machine learning. It includes bound constrained optimization and cardinality regularized optimization as special cases. This paper proposes and analyzes a new Matrix Splitting Method (MSM) for minimizing composite functions.

A Relaxed Splitting Preconditioner for the Incompressible Navier-Stokes Equations

open access: yesJournal of Applied Mathematics, 2012
A relaxed splitting preconditioner based on matrix splitting is introduced in this paper for linear systems of saddle point problem arising from numerical solution of the incompressible Navier-Stokes equations.

On the convergence of two-step modulus-based matrix splitting iteration method

open access: yesOpen Mathematics, 2021
In this paper, based on the relationship between the linear complementarity problem and its reformulated fixed-point equation, we discuss the conditions of the modulus-based type iteration methods. Moreover, we present some convergence results on the two-

Electron tunneling in the germanium/silicon heterostructure with germanium quantum dots: theory

open access: yesХімія, фізика та технологія поверхні, 2021
It is shown that electron tunneling through a potential barrier that separates two quantum dots of germanium leads to the splitting of electron states localized over spherical interfaces (a quantum dot – a silicon matrix).

A medium-shifted splitting iteration method for a diagonal-plus-Toeplitz linear system from spatial fractional Schrödinger equations

open access: yesBoundary Value Problems, 2018
The centered difference discretization of the spatial fractional coupled nonlinear Schrödinger equations obtains a discretized linear system whose coefficient matrix is the sum of a real diagonal matrix D and a complex symmetric Toeplitz matrix T̃ which ...

Quasilocality of joining/splitting strings from coherent states

open access: yes, 2007
Using the coherent state formalism we calculate matrix elements of the one-loop non-planar dilatation operator of ${\cal N}=4$ SYM between operators dual to folded Frolov-Tseytlin strings and observe a curious scaling behavior.

A relaxed block splitting preconditioner for complex symmetric indefinite linear systems

open access: yesOpen Mathematics, 2018
In this paper, we propose a relaxed block splitting preconditioner for a class of complex symmetric indefinite linear systems to accelerate the convergence rate of the Krylov subspace iteration method and the relaxed preconditioner is much closer to the ...

Next--to--Leading Order Corrections to Meson Masses in the Heavy Quark Effective Theory [PDF]

open access: yes, 1993
We use the QCD sum rule approach to calculate the splitting between vector and pseudoscalar mesons containing one light and one heavy quark, and the kinetic energy of the heavy quark. Our result for the splitting induced by the chromomagnetic interaction

Wave splitting of Maxwell's equations with anisotropic heterogeneous constitutive relations

open access: yes, 2008
The equations for the electromagnetic field in an anisotropic media are written in a form containing only the transverse field components relative to a half plane boundary.
