Rapid detection of mcr-1 by recombinase polymerase amplification

open access: yesJournal of Medical Microbiology, 2018
The plasmid-mediated mcr-1 gene conferring colistin resistance has a strong ability to spread. The objective of this study was to establish a rapid and sensitive recombinase polymerase amplification (RPA) method for plasmid-mediated polymyxin-resistant gene mcr-1 detection.Using the reported sequence of the mcr-1 gene, we designed specific primers and ...

Tissue‐Stimulator Platform for Electrically Stimulating Pancreatic β‐Cells for Long‐Term Functional Regulation

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
We present a tissue‐stimulator platform for seamless electrode integration with pancreatic tissue, applying uniform electrical stimulation through optimized design with biohybrid 3D printing. Advantageous effects of electrical stimulation on β‐cell function were observed, including enhanced calcium signaling, islet morphology, and maturation.

Occurrence and Genomic Characterization of Two MCR-1-Producing Escherichia coli Isolates from the Same Mink Farmer

open access: yesmSphere, 2019
The spread of colistin resistance gene mcr-1 at the animal-human interface remains largely unknown. This work aimed to investigate the molecular characteristics of two extended-spectrum-β-lactamase (ESBL)-producing Escherichia coli strains with mcr-1, i ...

Global burden of colistin-resistant bacteria : mobilized colistin resistance genes study (1980-2018) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Colistin is considered to be an antimicrobial of last-resort for the treatment of multidrug-resistant Gram-negative bacterial infections. The recent global dissemination of mobilized colistin resistance (mcr) genes is an urgent public health threat.

Features of the mcr-1 Cassette Related to Colistin Resistance [PDF]

open access: yesAntimicrobial Agents and Chemotherapy, 2016
The recent description of the plasmid-mediated colistin resistance gene, mcr-1 , in strains isolated from food animals, food and humans in China was a signal for an avalanche of retrospective and prospective studies investigating the occurrence of this specific gene (1).…

Assembly of Cell‐Seeded 3D Printed Hydrogel Modules with Perfusable Channel Networks

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Macroscale assembly was utilized to prepare perfusable tissue constructs from individually 3D printed hydrogel modules with embedded branched channel networks and port arrays for cell seeding. Novel multi‐material bioreactors were fabricated to facilitate the gluing of individual modules and the perfusion culture of assembled modular constructs seeded ...

On the analysis of tuberculosis studies with intermittent missing sputum data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
In randomized studies evaluating treatments for tuberculosis (TB), individuals are scheduled to be routinely evaluated for the presence of TB using sputum cultures. One important endpoint in such studies is the time of culture conversion, the first visit

mcr-1 identified in Avian Pathogenic Escherichia coli (APEC)

open access: yesPLOS ONE, 2017

A Single Residue within the MCR-1 Protein Confers Anticipatory Resilience

open access: yesMicrobiology Spectrum, 2022
The global presence of transferable mcr genes in a wide range of Gram-negative bacteria from clinical, veterinary, food, and aquaculture environments is disconcerting. Its success as a transmissible resistance factor remains enigmatic, because its expression imposes fitness costs and imparts only moderate levels of ...

Magnetothermal‐Triggered Response and Self‐Healing of Recyclable and Reprocessable Nanocomposites for Actuation Systems

open access: yesAdvanced Functional Materials, EarlyView.
Developing recyclable materials for magnetic robotics that combine rapid response and self‐healing properties is challenging. Hence, this study focuses on the integration of magnetothermal nanoparticles into a dynamic sorbitol‐based vitrimer, a recyclable composite capable of remote actuation and self‐healing by magnetic heating.
