Giant MDCK cells: a novel expression system.

Methods in enzymology, 1990
This chapter describes a technique by which an epithelial cell line can be used for expression experiments. Basically, cells are harvested from a subconfluent monolayer and fused to form giant cells. For expression experiments the giant cells have to be identified first, then injected individually, and, finally, 24 hr after microinjection, re ...

Perforated MDCK cells support intracellular transport.

The EMBO Journal, 1987
We have developed a method for perforating the plasma membrane of MDCK cells while retaining cellular functions. A nitrocellulose acetate filter was applied to the apical side of cells, grown on a glass coverslip, and allowed to dry. Segments of the apical plasma membrane adhered to the filter and were detached from the cell layer by shearing when the ...

Anion channels for amino acids in MDCK cells

American Journal of Physiology-Cell Physiology, 1992
Large losses of amino acids by diffusion were previously observed in Madin-Darby canine kidney (MDCK) cells during volume regulation. Also, an outward rectifying anion channel was activated. Because this channel was not selective among anions, it was suggested that it could be permeable to amino acids.

Correlation between E-cadherin interactions, survivin expression, and apoptosis in MDCK and ts-Src MDCK cell culture models

Laboratory Investigation, 2017
Survivin, a member of inhibitor of apoptosis (IAP) protein family, is a multifunctional protein expressed in most cancers. In addition to inhibition of apoptosis, it regulates proliferation and promotes migration. Its presence and function in cells is strongly regulated via transcription factors, intracellular localization, and degradation. We analyzed

Polarized trafficking of thyrocyte proteins in MDCK cells

Molecular and Cellular Endocrinology, 2002
Recent studies suggest striking similarities between polarized protein sorting in thyrocytes and MDCK epithelial cells, including apical trafficking of thyroglobulin (Tg), thyroid peroxidase, and aminopeptidase N; as well as basolateral targeting of heparan sulfate proteoglycans, thrombospondin 1 (TSP1), type 1 5'-deiodinase, sodium-potassium ATPase ...

Isolation and Characterization of MDCK-Subcultures

1983
In order to obtain uniform populations derived from the MDCK cell line, the technique of centrifugal elutriation has been used. Seven cell types, which differ from each other by their size have been subcultured and characterized with regards to their morphology and stimulation of adenylate cyclase.

Cisplatin-induced cytotoxicity in MDCK cells.

2009
Background. The mechanism of cisplatin-induced nephrotoxicity is not well understood. The distal tubules are affected in both human and animal studies, although the majority of cisplatin-induced renal damage is in proximal tubules. Platinum (Pt) forms intra- and interstrand cross-links with DNA in cancer cells. Hypothesis.

MDCK Cells Under Severely Hypoosmotic Conditions

1992
The literature on animal cells exposed to anisosmotic solutions is truly massive as one may appreciate from a few selected recent reviews on the subject (Gilles et al. 1987; Macknight, 1988; Chamberlin and Strange, 1989; Kleinzeller and Ziyadeh, 1990; Beyenbach, 1990).
