Polarity of the Forssman glycolipid in MDCK epithelial cells
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta (BBA) - Molecular Cell Research, 1987To determine whether epithelial plasma membrane glycolipids are polarized in a manner analogous to membrane proteins, MDCK cells grown on permeable filters were analyzed for the expression of Forssman ceramide pentasaccharide, the major neutral glycolipid in these cells.

The exocyst localizes to the primary cilium in MDCK cells
Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 2004Primary cilia play a role in the maintenance of tubular epithelial differentiation and ciliary dysfunction can result in abnormal cyst formation, such as occurs in autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD). We previously showed that the exocyst, an eight-protein complex involved in the biogenesis of polarity from yeast to mammals, is ...

A cell-based vaccine production method for influenza virus may be an effective and more rapid alternative to egg-based systems. For high-yield virus production, the effect of bovine, porcine, fungal, and recombinant trypsins on influenza A/H1N1 virus replication in MDCK SI-6 cells (SI-6 cells), a novel MDCK cell line developed by our research group ...

Giant MDCK cells: a novel expression system.
Methods in enzymology, 1990This chapter describes a technique by which an epithelial cell line can be used for expression experiments. Basically, cells are harvested from a subconfluent monolayer and fused to form giant cells. For expression experiments the giant cells have to be identified first, then injected individually, and, finally, 24 hr after microinjection, re ...
