Properties and inference of the Pareto Lomax distribution with applications to real data

open access: yesScientific Reports
This paper introduces a new four-parameter lifetime model, the odd Pareto–Lomax (OPLx) distribution. By extending the Lomax model, the OPLx distribution provides enhanced flexibility for modeling real-world data across various fields.

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Discrete Models Characterized by Bivariate Conditional Mean Residual Life

open access: yes, 2004
The concept of the univariate mean residual life (mrl) function is generalized to the bivariate case in the discrete set up and its properties are studied. This bivariate mrl is utilized to characterize bivariate distributions by its functional form .

Residual Useful Life Estimation Based on a Time-Dependent Ornstein-Uhlenbeck Process

open access: yesChemical Engineering Transactions, 2013
Residual useful life plays a core role in the field of the prognostics and health management of systems. For deteriorating systems or devices it can be estimated by establishing a good-fitting stochastic process model and solving corresponding first ...

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

A Bayesian inference with Hamiltonian Monte Carlo (HMC) framework for a three-parameter model with reliability applications

open access: yesKuwait Journal of Science
In this work, a complete Bayesian paradigm for the proposed three-parameter Weibull-based model is presented, and the Hamiltonian Monte Carlo (HMC) algorithm was used to enhance precision and expedite inference.

On some Asymptotic Properties of the Extended Cosine Burr XII Distribution

open access: yesUMYU Scientifica Journal
In statistics, asymptotic functions provide a powerful framework for understanding the behavior of functions or statistical procedures within the limits of certain parameters.
