Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Photovoltaic Power Plants (PV-PP) Reliability Indicators for Improving Operation and Maintenance Activities. A Case Study of PV-PP Agigea Located in Romania

open access: yesIEEE Access, 2019
The main purpose of this paper is to design a scientific-based probabilistic model based on Markov chains, to calculate reliability indicators, such as mean time between failure (MTBF) and mean time to failure (MTTF) based on probabilities, to compute ...

Analysis of Node Failures in High Performance Computers Based on System Logs [PDF]

open access: yes, 2015
The growth in size and complexity of HPC systems leads to a rapid increase of their failure rates. In the near future, it is expected that the mean time between failures of HPC systems becomes too short and that current failure recovery mechanisms will ...

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Availability and mean time between failures of redundant systems with random maintenance of subsystems [PDF]

open access: yes
It is shown how the availability and MTBF (Mean Time Between Failures) of a redundant system with subsystems maintenanced at the points of so-called stationary renewal processes can be determined from the distributions of the intervals between ...

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.

AAA+ protein unfoldases—the Moirai of the proteome

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
AAA+ unfoldases are essential molecular motors that power protein degradation and disaggregation. This review integrates recent cryo‐electron microscopy (cryo‐EM) structures and single‐molecule biophysical data to reconcile competing models of substrate translocation.

Granular Impact: A Grain-scale Approach

open access: yes, 2015
This work summarizes a series of studies on two-dimensional granular impact, where an intruding object strikes a granular material at high speed. Many previous studies on granular impact have used a macroscopic force law, which is dominated by an ...
