Reliability Analysis Considering the PFC Function and Redundancy Effect of the Vienna Converter

open access: yesIEEE Access
This paper analyzes the impact of power factor correction (PFC) on the failure rate of a Vienna converter through reliability analysis under conditions where AC-to-DC conversion is possible but the PFC function is not functioning due to a partial failure

Efficient estimation of the mean time between failures in non-regenerative dependability models [PDF]

open access: yesProceedings of the 25th conference on Winter simulation - WSC '93, 1993
In this paper we discuss fast simulation techniques for estimating the steady-state mean time between failures (MTBF) in non-Markovian models of highly dependable systems. The key is to use a ratio representation of the MTBF, in which the denominator is closely related to the probability of a rare event and is therefore amenable to estimation using ...

Calpain small subunit homodimerization is robust and calcium‐independent

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Calpains dimerize via penta‐EF‐hand (PEF) domains. Using single‐molecule force spectroscopy, we measured the strength and kinetics of PEF–PEF homodimer binding. The interaction is robust, shows a transient conformational step before dissociation, and remains largely insensitive to Ca2+.

Self‐Reported Outdoor Light Exposure Time and Incident Heart Failure

open access: yesJournal of the American Heart Association: Cardiovascular and Cerebrovascular Disease
Background A healthy lifestyle is an important factor for preventing heart failure. However, the association between outdoor light exposure time and heart failure is still unknown.

Accelerated Degradation Model of Nonlinear Wiener Process Based on Fixed Time Index

open access: yesMathematics, 2019
In the process of extrapolating a lifetime distribution function under normal storage conditions through nonlinear accelerated degradation data, time indexes under the normal storage conditions are usually set to the mean value of time indexes under ...

Sudden cardiac death in patients with ischemic heart failure undergoing coronary artery bypass grafting results from the STICH randomized clinical trial (Surgical Treatment for Ischemic Heart Failure) [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background—The risk of sudden cardiac death (SCD) in patients with heart failure following CABG has not been examined in a contemporary clinical trial of surgical revascularization. This analysis describes the incidence, timing and clinical predictors of

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.

Life analysis of restored and refurbished bearings [PDF]

open access: yes
An analysis of the potential life of refurbished and restored bearings was performed. The sensitivity of 10-percent life and mean-time-between-failure to the effects of cumulative fatigue damage and the amount of stressed volume removed in the ...
