π-extended anthracenes as sensitive probes for mechanical stress

open access: yesChemical Science, 2015
Diels–Alder adducts of π-extended anthracenes have been synthesised, employed as mechanophores in polymeric materials and show unprecedented detection sensitivity for mechanical stress.

Mycobacterium tuberculosis sulfurtransferase SseA is activated by its neighboring gene product Rv3284

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Tuberculosis remains a global health challenge and new therapeutic targets are required. Here, we characterized SseA, a sulfurtransferase from Mycobacterium tuberculosis involved in macrophage infection, and its interaction with the newly identified protein SufEMtb that activates SseA enzymatic activity.

Microtubules self-repair in response to mechanical stress

open access: yesNature Materials, 2015
Microtubules - which define the shape of axons, cilia and flagella, and provide tracks for intracellular transport - can be highly bent by intracellular forces, and microtubule structure and stiffness are thought to be affected by physical constraints ...

Aβ42 promotes the aggregation of α‐synuclein splice isoforms via heterogeneous nucleation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
The aggregation of amyloid‐β (Aβ) and α‐synuclein (αSyn) is associated with Alzheimer's and Parkinson's diseases. This study reveals that Aβ aggregates serve as potent nucleation sites for the aggregation of αSyn and its splice isoforms, shedding light on the intricate interplay between these two pathogenic proteins.

Evaluation of the influence of the clips geometry on the mechanical stresses generated on the thumb during assembly work

open access: yesبهداشت و ایمنی کار, 2017
Introduction: Nowadays, Snap-fits have many applications in the automotive industry, especially in assembly lines. They are used instead of the mechanical joints such as bolts, the cabling joints, and the car interior lining joints.

The Mechanism of Ligamentum Flavum Hypertrophy: Introducing Angiogenesis as a Critical Link That Couples Mechanical Stress and Hypertrophy.

open access: yesNeurosurgery, 2015
BACKGROUND Biochemical alterations associated with mechanical stress have been explored as an initiating step in the pathological progression of ligamentum flavum hypertrophy (LFH); however, this mechanism remains poorly understood.

Archaeal protein containing domain of unknown function 2193 undergoes oligomeric reconfiguration upon iron–sulfur cluster binding

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This work presents the characterization of MvoDUF2193, a Methanococcus voltae (Mvo) protein from the domain of unknown function (DUF) 2193 family. We demonstrate that MvoDUF2193 binds a single [4Fe–4S] cluster per subunit and that cluster occupancy regulates the transition from an apo tetramer to a [4Fe–4S] monomeric form. This structural transition is

Time-independent Anisotropic Plastic Behavior by Mechanical Subelement Models [PDF]

open access: yes, 1983
The paper describes a procedure for modelling the anisotropic elastic-plastic behavior of metals in plane stress state by the mechanical sub-layer model.

Plasma Membrane Mechanical Stress Activates TRPC5 Channels

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2015
Mechanical forces exerted on cells impose stress on the plasma membrane. Cells sense this stress and elicit a mechanoelectric transduction cascade that initiates compensatory mechanisms.
