Non-Newtonian Rheology in Blood Circulation

open access: yes, 2014
Blood is a complex suspension that demonstrates several non-Newtonian rheological characteristics such as deformation-rate dependency, viscoelasticity and yield stress.

Undulatory swimming in shear-thinning fluids: Experiments with C. elegans [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
The swimming behaviour of microorganisms can be strongly influenced by the rheology of their fluid environment. In this manuscript, we experimentally investigate the effects of shear-thinning viscosity on the swimming behaviour of an undulatory swimmer ...

Influence of several methods of flower and fruitlet thinning on the yield and quality of Gala Must apples

open access: yesActa Scientiarum Polonorum: Hortorum Cultus
Apple trees of the Gala Must, grafted onto the dwarfing M.9 rootstock, planted in 2014 at a spacing of 3.5×1.8 m, were subjected to flower and fruitlet thinning in 2022–2024.

Investigation on dimensional accuracy and mechanical properties of cylindrical parts by flow forming

open access: yesMATEC Web of Conferences, 2015
The high dimensional accuracy and excellent mechanical properties have become two most important requirements for structural components. In this paper, experiments using two spinning methods, stagger spinning and counter-roller spinning, were carried out

Effects of Increasing Fire Frequency on Conservation Values in Eucalyptus Grassy Woodland in the Process of Invasion by Allocasuarina verticillata

open access: yesFire, 2022
Woody thickening is a widespread phenomenon in the grassy woodlands of the world, often with deleterious effects on nature conservation values. We aimed to determine whether increasing the frequency of planned fire prevented woody thickening and improved

Polarization‐resolved femtosecond Vis/IR spectroscopy tailored for resolving weak signals in biological samples using minimal sample volume

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Unique biological samples, such as site‐specific mutant proteins, are available only in limited quantities. Here, we present a polarization‐resolved transient infrared spectroscopy setup with referencing to improve signal‐to‐noise tailored towards tracing small signals. We provide an overview of characterizing the excitation conditions for polarization‐

Combined 3D thinning and greedy algorithm to approximate realistic particles with corrected mechanical properties

open access: yes, 2019
The shape of irregular particles has significant influence on micro- and macro-scopic behavior of granular systems. This paper presents a combined 3D thinning and greedy set-covering algorithm to approximate realistic particles with a clump of ...

Rheological Behavior of a Dispersion of Small Lipid Bilayer Vesicles [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
Rheological behavior of a dispersion of small nearly-unilamellar phospholipid bilayer vesicles has been investigated. We conducted steady-state shear experiments and linear viscoelastic experiments.

Promiscuous stimulation of HSP70 ATPase activity by parasite‐derived J‐domains

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
The malaria parasite Plasmodium falciparum exports three highly homologous yet functionally divergent J‐domain proteins into human erythrocytes. Here, we show that J‐domains isolated from all three proteins effectively stimulate the ATPase activity of both endogenous host and exported parasite HSP70 chaperones.
